Liga Asuransi – The various accidents and fires that have occurred in various regions recently have again served as a harsh reminder of the importance of good risk management, both for individuals and business actors. From the tragedy of a bus overturning in Padang Panjang to a boarding house fire due to negligence in the kitchen, all these incidents show how lives, property and business continuity can be threatened in an instant. In this article, we summarize some shocking recent events, as well as review relevant insurance coverage to minimize losses arising from these unexpected risks.

ALS Bus Reverses in Padang Panjang! 12 Passengers Killed, Evacuation Dramatic

A heartbreaking tragedy occurred in Padang Panjang, West Sumatra, Tuesday (6/5/2025), when an Antar Lintas Sumatra (ALS) bus had a fatal accident which claimed 12 lives. This accident occurred at around 12.00 WIB and involved a bus with plate number B 7512 FGA which was carrying 48 passengers.

Head of Padang SAR, Abdul Malik, in an interview with Kompas TV said, “From reports in the field, 12 people died out of a total of 48 passengers.”

Tribun Padang’s monitoring showed that joint officers were busy evacuating victims and belongings from the overturned bus. This tragic incident triggered severe traffic jams around the scene, forcing police to divert traffic flow in two directions.

To expedite the rescue process, the police immediately installed a perimeter at the location, especially because many residents crowded the incident area to witness the evacuation firsthand.

The accident is thought to have been caused by the bus brakes failing, causing the driver to lose control and the bus overturned on the Padang Panjang highway on Tuesday morning. Until now, the authorities are still carrying out further investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident.

TNI Truck Explodes on Gempol Toll Road! 1 Soldier Dies Jumping Into a Ravine

The tragic incident occurred on the Gempol-Pandaan Toll Road, precisely at KM 774+350A towards Malang, Monday (5/5) evening at around 21.35 WIB. A truck belonging to the Indonesian Army experienced a severe fire accompanied by a powerful explosion which killed one TNI personnel.

Brigadier General Wahyu Yudhayana, Head of the Indonesian Army Information Service, explained that during the incident, two TNI members who were in the truck tried to save themselves by jumping into a ravine on the side of the toll road. One of them, Serma Leonardus Dhino Adi Setiawan, was found injured and immediately evacuated to Bhayangkara Pusdik Sabhara Hospital to receive intensive care.

“One injured victim, named Serma Leonardus, has been evacuated to hospital. Meanwhile, another member, Serka Untung Avisilia, was declared dead,” said Wahyu in his official statement, Tuesday (6/5).

The explosion which occurred at KM 772-774 of the Gempol Toll Road towards Pandaan, Pasuruan, East Java, came from a truck belonging to an Army Strategic Reserve Command (Kostrad) unit which was heading to Jember. Head of Information for Kodam V/Brawijaya, Colonel Kav Donan Wahyu Sejati, confirmed that the vehicle was part of a series of military convoys.

Until now, the cause of the fire and explosion is still under intensive investigation by the authorities. This incident caused a stir among residents and toll road users because of the large flames and the thunderous sound of the explosion.

7 Shophouses Burned Down! Losses Reach IDR 6 Billion, Evacuation of Hundreds of Gas Cylinders Makes Tension

A severe fire rocked a busy area on Jalan Sanggau Ledo, Sebalo Village, Bengkayang Regency, on Sunday night (4/5/2024) at around 21.15 WIB. At least seven semi-permanent shophouses (ruko) were reported to have been engulfed by the red rooster, triggering extraordinary panic among residents.

The fire broke out fiercely right across from the Bengkayang Regent’s official residence, causing residents around Rangkang and Sebopet to run out of their homes. Buildings that were close together and made of flammable materials accelerated the spread of the fire which started on the second floor of Gracio’s tire repair shop.

“The source of the fire was from the top floor of the workshop, then quickly spread to other shophouses because the buildings were close together,” said one eyewitness at the scene.

The blackout process lasted dramatically for almost two hours. A joint team from Tunas Mandiri Damkar, BPBD, BNPB, and residents worked together to tame the fire until it was finally brought under control at around 23.00 WIB.

Bengkayang Police Chief AKBP Teguh Nugroho explained that his party immediately acted quickly after receiving the report. Apart from securing the location, the police also deploy one Armored Water Cannon (AWC) unit to speed up the extinguishing process.

“We immediately sent personnel and also evacuated hundreds of LPG gas cylinders from one of the shophouses which is an LPG base, to prevent an explosion,” said Teguh.

Apart from helping extinguish the fire, officers also directed traffic to facilitate access to fire engines and ensure the safety of local residents. “The safety of residents is our priority. The National Police is here to support the blackout so that it runs quickly and safely,” he added.

Although there were no casualties in this incident, material losses were estimated at IDR 6 billion. The police have carried out a crime scene investigation (TKP) and examined a number of witnesses to reveal the exact cause of the fire.

The Bengkayang Police Chief also reminded business owners to be more alert to potential fires. He stressed the importance of regularly checking electrical installations, not storing flammable materials carelessly, and providing light fire extinguishers (APAR) in every business place.

This incident is a harsh reminder that fire preparedness and safety systems are very crucial, especially in dense and semi-permanent areas like Bengkayang.

Boarding Houses in Trenggalek Burned Down Due to Fried Meatballs! Losses Reach IDR 200 Million

A heavy fire engulfed a house and boarding house in Distance Hamlet, RT 21 RW 05, Karangsuko Village, Trenggalek District, Monday afternoon (05/05/2025). This incident, which was allegedly caused by negligence while cooking, resulted in material losses of up to IDR 200 million. Luckily, there were no casualties in this incident.

Head of the Trenggalek PPK Satpol, Habib Solehudin, explained that the fire report was received at around 17.45 WIB from a resident named Suharyanto (42). The fire brigade team immediately rushed to the location in less than five minutes.

“We immediately moved quickly after receiving the report. The team arrived at the location at 17.49 WIB and started the extinguishing process,” said Habib.

According to information gathered, the fire started at around 16.00 WIB when the owner of the house, Pramutahar, is frying meatballs in the kitchen. After turning off the fire in the stove, he simply left the kitchen. However, at around 17.38 WIB, Ridwan Yoga Pratama, one of the boarding house residents, saw sparks on the roof tiles which quickly grew.

Suharyanto, who learned about the incident, immediately contacted the fire brigade. Efforts to extinguish the fire lasted until 19.37 WIB. Even though the fire was successfully contained, the house and kitchen covering an area of 9×9 meters were destroyed by the fire.

Material losses were estimated at IDR 200 million, but firefighters managed to save six houses around the fire location with an asset value of around IDR 800 million.

Habib Solehudin emphasized that the cause of this fire was strongly suspected to be due to human negligence, because the fire in the stove had not been completely extinguished when it was left.

“We urge the public to be more alert. Always make sure that the fire is completely extinguished before leaving the kitchen so that a similar incident does not happen again,” he concluded.

This incident is a harsh reminder of how important it is to be careful when working in the kitchen, especially in densely populated areas.

The motorbike parking lot was destroyed by fire due to the stove exploding, only the frames of 150 employees’ motorbikes remained!

A devastating fire hit the parking area at the PT Hwa Seung Indonesia (HWI) factory, located in Gemulung Village, Pecangaan District, Jepara, on Monday afternoon (5/5). This incident burned more than 150 motorbikes belonging to parked employees, leaving only charred motorbike frames.

In the video widely circulated on social media, thick smoke can be seen rising from the scene. The fire spread quickly due to the large amount of flammable material around the parking area. Not only motorbikes, the fire also spread to a number of stalls around the parking lot.

Material losses due to this fire are estimated at IDR 2.2 billion. Jepara Fire Department Head, Surana, confirmed that his party received the report at around 15.08 WIB and immediately deployed four fire trucks. The extinguishing process was greatly helped by the factory’s hydrant which provided additional water supply, until the fire was finally extinguished about half an hour later.

From the results of the investigation, it is strongly suspected that this fire was triggered by a stove explosion in one of the food stalls near the parking lot. Kasatreskrim Jepara, AKP M Faizal Wildan Umar Rela, explained that after the explosion, the fire quickly spread to other shops and finally burned down the entire parking lot behind the factory.

Interestingly, even though the location is in the factory area, the parking lot is managed independently by local residents and is not owned by PT HWI. Luckily, there were no fatalities in this incident, but the employees had to let their motorbikes burn down.

A drift barge hit 6 houses and 5 boats in Palembang

A shocking incident occurred on the Musi River, Palembang, South Sumatra, in the early hours of Saturday (3/5/2025) at around 00.10 WIB. A barge hit six houses and five residents’ boats, causing serious damage.

Head of the Gakkum Polair Unit Polrestabes Palembang, AKP Kamil Al Rasyid, revealed that this incident was triggered by extreme weather. “That night it rained heavily accompanied by strong winds, visibility was very limited,” he explained, Sunday (4/5/2025).

As a result of the bad weather, the barge BG Marine Power 3060 which was anchored was dragged by the wind towards residential areas. Without being able to stop it, the barge crashed into buildings and residents’ boats. “The Marina 2220 immediately started the engine to push the barge back to the middle of the river,” added Kamil.

The situation on radio communications was chaotic. “Almost all ships anchored in the Gandus area experienced the same thing. The barges were swept away by the current, making our communication with the ship’s crew very difficult,” he said.

One of the victims, Saidi, described the tense moments when the barge hit his house. He said the barge that was originally anchored was swept away by big waves and hit his house and several other houses.

“We were very shocked. It was raining heavily, the lights went out. We immediately saved the children and ran out of the house,” said Saidi.

Saidi said his house was now badly damaged and tilted, making it impossible to renovate. “The house can no longer be repaired, it must be completely demolished. The company has promised to provide compensation,” he said.

Muchlisa Ferry Shipwrecked in Penajam, Two Passengers Trapped in Car

A surprising incident occurred in North Penajam Paser (PPU) Waters, East Kalimantan, when the ferry Muchlisa which usually serves the Penajam-Balikpapan route sank due to suspected engine failure. Information from BPBD PPU on Monday (5/5) stated that the ship suffered serious damage to its engine before finally sinking.

There are no official details regarding the complete chronology of the sinking of this ship, nor reports on the exact number of victims. “The team has gone to the location,” wrote BPBD PPU in its report.

It was reported that when the ferry was about to dock, the ship’s left engine did not work. After inspection by the crew, it was discovered that the ship’s propeller axle was broken. The crew immediately asked for help from PT Ferry 3 Anugerah to push the ship to land to prevent it karam, but the attempt failed and the ship eventually sank.

The police have now questioned a number of witnesses, including the captain and helmsman of the ship, to further investigate the cause of this incident. Evacuation of passengers has been carried out, but until now there is no exact data on the number of passengers and vehicles on board the ship at the time of the incident.

Even more worrying, according to information circulating, there were two passengers—a man and a woman—who were trapped in the car when the ship started to sink. The rescue process for both of them is still ongoing.

This incident is a strong reminder of the importance of routine inspections and shipping safety, especially for ferry vessels carrying large numbers of passengers.
