Hot Gas Leak in Batam! 7 Workers Injured, What is Their Condition?

Another work accident occurred in Batam, this time affecting seven PT Bethel workers located in Kabil, Nongsa. Luckily, the incident did not result in any casualties.

This accident was reported to have occurred on Thursday night (12/9), at around 22.30 WIB, in the company area. A worker who did not want to be named said that the accident occurred at the Pluto Train 2 location, where at that time there were dozens of workers carrying out work.

According to him, the incident started when workers were checking pipe pressure. Suddenly, the pipe leaked and released hot gas that hit several workers, causing them to fall. The victims were immediately taken to the nearest hospital using ambulances for help.

Nongsa Police Chief, Commissioner Efendri Alie, confirmed this incident and said that the victims had been treated at Soedarsono Darmosoewito Hospital. Five of them were allowed to go home after receiving treatment, while the other two are still undergoing further observation and treatment.

From the results of the initial examination and testimony from witnesses at the location, the incident was caused by a pipe leak. Further investigations are underway to determine whether there was any negligence on the part of the company or workers.

The Head of the Batam City Manpower Service, Rudi Sakyakirti, also regrets this incident, especially because the incident occurred again at PT Bethel. He requested that labor inspection from the Province immediately follow up and resolve this case.

Construction Worker Died in Fall from a Height of 10 Meters, Allegedly Not Using Personal Protective Equipment

A construction worker named Abdul Rohman (39), a resident of Karangsono Village, Pasuruan, died after experiencing a work accident while building the PT Platinum Cemerlang Indonesia (PCI) factory in Jombang. This tragic incident occurred on Thursday (12/9) when Abdul was installing a roof frame and steel plates at a construction site in Bandarkedungmulyo Village.

According to the information obtained, Abdul fell from a height of around 10 meters. Temporary allegations state that the victim did not use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while working. Abdul was rushed to the Bandarkedungmulyo Community Health Center before finally being referred to the Kertosono Regional Hospital (RSD), Nganjuk Regency. Unfortunately, his life could not be saved, and the victim was declared dead.

Bandar Kedung Mulyo Police Chief, AKP Sumadji, confirmed this work accident and said that his party was currently compiling a complete report regarding the incident. He also explained that the investigation team from the Jombang Police Criminal Investigation Unit, together with the local police, had gone to the field to carry out an investigation.

“Currently, our team together with the Police have started conducting field investigations regarding this work accident,” said AKP Sumadji.

On the other hand, the Head of the Jombang Regency Manpower Service (Disnaker), Isawan Nanang Risdiyanto, stated that his party was still verifying information regarding the incident. He also emphasized that law enforcement regarding alleged violations of Occupational Health and Safety (K3) is under the authority of labor inspectors, while the Manpower Office is responsible for K3 guidance.

This incident adds to the list of work accidents that deserve special attention regarding the implementation of safety standards in the workplace, especially in construction projects.

Gas Tank Explodes! Severe Fire at Tuban Soy Sauce Factory, 4 Workers Rushed to Hospital. Losses Reach Tens of Millions

A fire incident occurred at the Cap Laron Soy Sauce Factory located in Gedongombo Village, Semanding District, Tuban Regency, on Monday (16/9/2024). This fire caused four workers to be rushed to the Dr Koesma Tuban Regional General Hospital (RSUD) to receive medical treatment.

According to the Head of the Tuban Satpol PP and Fire Department (Damkar), Gunadi, the fire started when workers were cleaning an 8,000 liter capacity LPG gas tank using a compressor machine. The tank is empty when cleaned.

However, suddenly there was a spark accompanied by the sound of an explosion from inside the tank. Gunadi suspects that this fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in the compressor engine installation, which triggered a spark and caught the remaining gas in the tank.

“The fire most likely occurred due to an electrical short circuit in the compressor engine, which ultimately ignited the remaining gas,” explained Gunadi.

Firefighters immediately arrived at the location to extinguish the fire using a mixture of water and detergent, so that the fire was successfully suppressed before it spread further. Material losses resulting from this incident are estimated at IDR 50 million.

A truck caught fire in a wood saw waste warehouse in Karangkemiri Village, Maos District, Cilacap, on Sunday (15/9/2024) at around 16.30 WIB. The fire is thought to have been caused by an electrical short circuit that occurred in the cab of a truck that was parked in the warehouse area.

According to witness testimony, fire started to emerge from the truck cabin and quickly spread to piles of saw waste around it. The head of the Cilacap Damkar UPT, Supriyadi, explained that local residents tried to push the truck out of the warehouse to prevent the fire from spreading further.

“The fire came from the truck cabin due to an electrical short circuit and immediately spread to piles of wood waste in the warehouse,” said Supriyadi.

Residents tried to extinguish the fire using a light fire extinguisher (APAR) before finally reporting the incident to Kroya Damkar officers. Receiving the report, the fire brigade team immediately arrived at the location and extinguished the fire using 3,000 liters of water.

Although there were no fatalities, this fire caused material losses of up to IDR 100 million for the warehouse owner.

The Lalan Bridge, which previously suffered damage after being hit by a coal barge, is back in the spotlight after being involved in the latest incident. On Saturday (14/9/2024) at around 08.05 WIB, a coal barge towed by Tugboat Marina 1621 BG Marine Power 3039 hit the bridge foundation.

The Head of Lalan Subdistrict, Jamian, confirmed that the incident did not cause serious damage to the bridge pillar foundation, because the barge only grazed the back. “Not hit, but nudged, sir,” explained Jamian when contacted by detikSumbagsel.

Currently, the captain of the tugboat involved in the incident has been arrested and is being questioned by the South Sumatra Regional Police Directorate of Air and Water Resources. “He has been BAPed at the South Sumatra Police Ditpolairud,” added Jamian.

The Lalan Bridge is still under repair, and the river channel under the bridge, which was closed due to debris from the collapsed bridge, has now been reopened to ships. Head of KSOP Palembang, First Admiral TNI Idham Faca, informed that since Wednesday (11/9), ships have been able to pass normally on this route.

Idham also appealed to ship and speed boat captains passing through the Musi River, especially in the Lalan Bridge area, to always be careful and prioritize safety. “I urge boat captains and speedboats to always be careful, especially when crossing the Lalan Bridge,” he concluded.
