Horrible Accident in Jetis Village: Cooking Oil Tank Truck Overturns, Residents Loot the Load

A tragic accident occurred on Jalan Raya Jetis Village, Jetis District, Mojokerto Regency, East Java, on Monday (12/8/2024). This incident involved a tanker truck carrying more than 7 tonnes of cooking oil which overturned after colliding with a trontoon truck.

The accident started when a tanker truck which was on its way from Jetis to Mojokerto to send a load of cooking oil to Madiun, collided with a trontoon truck which was traveling from Mojokerto to Jetis. According to the tanker truck driver, Bibit Purwanto from Madiun, “I was going from east to south. When I was at the location, a truck avoided the motorbike and hit my truck, so my truck rolled over. I wanted to deliver this cooking oil to Madiun.”

After the tanker truck overturned, the load of cooking oil spilled onto the road, causing the oil spill to spill over into the surrounding area. Sadly, instead of providing help, a number of residents at the location took advantage of the situation to loot cooking oil from the tank. They used buckets and gallons to contain the spilled oil.

This incident caused a crowd of residents around the location who seemed busy collecting cooking oil that was flowing on the road. Meanwhile, the tronton truck involved in the accident fled the scene. Apart from that, this accident also caused a truck loaded with cooking oil to hit a motorbike at the scene.

As a result of this accident, traffic flow from Mojokerto to Jetis and vice versa was forced to be completely closed for the process of evacuating vehicles and cleaning the road. Motorbike riders are reminded to stay away from the area because the road has become very slippery due to the cooking oil spill.

The police and authorities are still investigating this incident, and are trying to identify and arrest the truck driver who ran away. Residents are expected to wait for the evacuation process to complete and maintain order at the scene.

Massive Fire Burns Hundreds of Houses in Manggarai, South Jakarta: Around 2,000 People Affected

A large fire hit a densely populated area in Manggarai, Tebet, South Jakarta in the early hours of Tuesday (13/8), resulting in around two thousand people being affected. The rapidly spreading fire burned hundreds of houses in the area, creating chaos and suffering in the community.

According to the Head of the DKI Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat), Satriadi Gunawan, this fire affected two RWs in Manggarai, namely RW 06 and RW 012. “The most affected were RW 06 with 15 RTs and RW 012 with 4 RTs,” explained Satriadi in his statement to journalists. “In total, around 2,000 people were affected by this fire.”

The fire was reported to have occurred at around 02.40 WIB. Initially, six fire trucks were deployed to the scene. “However, when officers arrived, the fire had spread rapidly,” said Satriadi. “We immediately carried out extinguishing efforts, but due to the dense occupancy and size of the fire, we needed additional units.”

A total of 35 fire engines and 125 personnel were deployed to overcome the fire. Satriadi said that the main challenge faced was the distance to the water source which was quite far. “Our initial challenge was getting a water source, but with the number of units available, we managed to overcome that problem and started fighting the fire.”

The Head of the DKI Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Service also added that the situation is currently still under intensive management and officers continue to work hard to control the fire and prevent the fire from spreading further. Authorities will continue to provide updates regarding conditions on the ground and post-fire recovery efforts.

This fire is a reminder of the importance of disaster preparedness and mitigation in densely populated areas, and requires support and solidarity from the community to help the affected victims.

A terrible work accident occurred at the Smelter Grade Alumina Refinery (SGAR) project managed by Borneo Alumina Indonesia (BAI) in Bukit Batu Village, Sungai Kunyit District, Mempawah Regency, West Kalimantan, on Monday (12/8/2024). This incident resulted in the death of a worker who was crushed by an excavator.

The victim, Kon Ji Fam (41), a resident of Tanjung Gundul, Karimunting, Bengkayang, was carrying out his duties as an excavator supervisor in the 10KV side excavation area when the accident occurred. Kon Ji Fam works with excavator operator, Syahrin, who operates the Komatsu EC-1108 Excavator.

According to the Assistant Manager for ER and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) PT BAI, Join Wira Sembiring, the accident occurred at around 12.30 WIB. At that time, Kon Ji Fam was directing operators to carry out embankment sloping activities. “Kon Ji Fam is a general worker whose job is to supervise the work process. During the activity, he often moves around the excavator,” said Join Wira Sembiring.

When the operator is focused on his work, he shifts the excavator’s position to the right. Suddenly, at around 13.05 WIB, a scream was heard from the victim. “When the operator heard the screams, he immediately turned the excavator cab and saw that the victim had been crushed in his left leg,” added Join Wira Sembiring.

Immediately after that, the operator backed up the excavator and the victim was immediately evacuated to the site clinic for medical treatment. Despite swift medical efforts, Kon Ji Fam’s life could not be saved.

Robbery Shocks BRILink Seminai: Perpetrator Seizes IDR 70 Million with Sharp Weapons

A shocking robbery occurred at BRILink Seminai, Pangkalan Kerinci, Pelalawan Regency, Riau, on Sunday (11/8/2024). This robbery was in the spotlight after the perpetrator’s actions were clearly recorded by a CCTV camera installed at the location, causing a stir among local residents.

Pangkalan Kerinci Police Chief, AKP Viola Dwi Anggraini, revealed that the perpetrator was suspected to be a single man carrying a sharp weapon. “The perpetrator carried a sharp weapon to threaten two employees at the location. Losses from this action reached IDR 70 million,” explained AKP Viola in a press conference on Tuesday (13/8/2024).

The perpetrator’s modus operandi was quite bold and cunning. He pretended to be a bank customer, then carried out his cruel act by pointing a sharp weapon such as a sickle at the employee. “The perpetrator pretended to withdraw money, but in fact he took advantage of the opportunity to confiscate the money with the threat of a weapon,” continued the Police Chief.

Police Chief Viola Dwi Anggraini appealed to business owners and BRI Link agents to increase supervision and security at their locations. “We see that security at the location is very minimal. This BRI Link agent is very vulnerable to criminal acts, especially when making large money transactions. We recommend additional security such as security,” he added.

The police have received an official report regarding this incident and are in the process of further investigation. Police also ask the public to report any suspicious activity around them. With CCTV footage, it is hoped that the perpetrator can be immediately identified and arrested, as well as preventing similar incidents in the future.

KLM ship Tahta Mandiri Loaded with 5,000 Bags of Cement Sinks in Selayar Islands Waters

The Tahta Mandiri Motor Sailing Ship (KLM) carrying 5,000 bags of cement and mixed goods experienced a dramatic maritime accident in the waters of the Selayar Islands Regency, South Sulawesi, on Saturday (10/8/2024). Even though the ship sank, all 8 crew members (ABK) and passengers were successfully evacuated safely.

According to information from the Selayar Search and Rescue (SAR) Post Commander (Danpos), Andi Raswan, the ship departed from Paotere Harbor, Makassar City on Thursday (8/8) at 17.00 WITA, with the destination Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara. KLM Tahta Mandiri began experiencing problems after departing, with bad weather forcing the ship to stop in Jeneponto Regency on Friday (9/8).

“Bad weather when leaving Paotere Harbor caused the ship to stop at Jeneponto. However, after continuing its journey, the ship was hit by a large wave which caused it to leak,” said Sukri, one of the crew members, explaining the chronology of the incident.

On Saturday (10/8), at around 15.00 WITA, the ship started to leak and sank in less than an hour. Sukri added that although they turned on all the water pumps, and tried hard to prevent sinking, the weight of the cargo and failure of the main engine caused the ship to eventually sink.

“Even though we had turned on all the pump engines, the ship was unable to withstand the weight of the incoming water. The main engine also no longer functioned, so we could only save ourselves,” said Sukri.

Luckily, the KLM Andin Jaya ship, which happened to be sailing together, managed to evacuate all crew members and passengers. They were then taken to Kayuadi Island while waiting for further action.

Sukri estimates that losses due to the sinking of the KLM Tahta Mandiri reached IDR 2 billion, including losses from cargo such as cement and mixed goods.

This case highlights the importance of safety and preparedness in sailing, especially when facing bad weather and maritime risks. Authorities will continue to investigate the exact cause of the sinking as well as evaluate safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The KM Monalisa 1 tourist ship carrying 5 tourists sank in the waters of Pink Beach

The tourist ship KM Monalisa 1 was found submerged in the waters of Pink Beach, Komodo National Park, on Thursday morning, August 8 2024. This accident is the ninth tourist boat incident since January this year. Luckily, all 5 tourists—2 foreign nationals and 3 domestic tourists—were safe and evacuated to Labuan Bajo to receive medical assistance.

KM Monalisa 1, which was sailing from Labuan Bajo to Padar Island, Komodo, Pink Beach, and back to Labuan Bajo, experienced a disaster while it was between Pink Beach and Batu Tiga. The Phinisi ship was hit by high waves and strong winds, which caused the ship to roll and water to enter the hull before finally sinking.

The KM Tsamara crew, who happened to pass by that location, managed to save eight tourists. The Joint SAR Team from the West Manggarai SAR Post, Lanal Maumere, NTT Regional Police Air Force, then picked up the victims and took them to the Labuan Bajo Waterfront Marina Harbor to receive medical assistance. All the tourists survived, but their belongings sank with the ship.

“The Joint SAR Team succeeded in evacuating all the victims to Labuan Bajo. They received medical treatment from the Labuan Bajo Port Health Office,” said Supriyanto Ridwan, Head of Rescue and Search for Class B Maumere.

This tourist boat accident triggered a response from the local government. The Deputy Regent of West Manggarai, Yulianus Weng, expressed concern over the increasing number of tourist boat accidents and proposed the formation of a Task Force (Satgas) to address the problem.

“A task force will be formed to handle tourist ship accidents. This task force will involve various stakeholders, including maritime transportation, KSOP, Airut Police, TNI AL, ship business associations, and others,” explained Yulianus.

The West Manggarai government hopes that the formation of the Task Force will improve safety and prevent tourist boat accidents in the future, as well as ensure better safety standards for tourist cruises in the waters of the Komodo National Park.
