Trailer Truck Loaded with Heavy Equipment Experiences Single Accident: Brakes Fail
On Sunday (3/3) afternoon, there was a single accident on the national road in RT 1 RW 1, Sarang Halang Village, Pelaihari District, involving a trailer truck carrying heavy equipment. Luckily, there were no fatalities in the accident, only material losses occurred.
One of the kernet, Iwan, explained that the accident occurred because the brakes on the trailer truck he was riding in were damaged, aka they failed. They, their driver and a friend were on their way from Kotabaru to Banjarbaru to send an excavator rented by a company.
“This excavator was previously in Lontar, Kotabaru and we wanted to take it to Jalan Trikora,” he said. When they were traveling from Lontar to Banjarbaru, they were accompanied by two other trailer trucks.
While going down the road in that area, the truck’s brakes suddenly failed, so the driver immediately swerved to the left of the road.
“At that time, our truck was in second place out of three trucks, and because the brakes failed, to avoid a collision with the car in front of it, the driver quickly swerved to the left,” explained a resident from Kandangan.
“If our driver had not taken those steps, maybe we would all have had an accident,” he added. Iwan also said that they had informed the equipment owner of this incident, and the plan was that the equipment owner would come to the location together with the operator. “We are waiting for the equipment operator to arrive from Banjar, then the truck can be evacuated,” he explained.
