- 34 Jakarta High School Classroom Burns, No Casualties
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — A fire broke out at the 34 Jakarta Senior High School Building, Cilandak, South Jakarta. The fire broke out around 6:20 a.m. Luckily the fire was only in one of the classrooms and didn’t scorch the entire building and was extinguished quickly.
The head of the Cilandak police, Kompol Multazam, said that a witness saw the fire as thick smoke on the third floor of the building. Then the witness checked the location where the smoke was billowing. After checking the smoke, the smoke came from inside the class 11 IPS 2 room.
“Then the witness checked the 3rd floor of SMA 34 Jakarta,” said Multazam to the media crew, Monday (31/10/2022).
However, the classroom that became the source of the puff of smoke was locked. Practically, the witness immediately broke it down because he wanted to find out the cause of the fire. While carrying the fire extinguisher, the witness managed to break into the room.
“Then the door was forced to break open and the fire was extinguished with a tube fire extinguisher. It was full of smoke and the electricity was out,” Multazam explained.
Furthermore, the witness reported the fire incident to the Cilandak Police. The police and firefighters immediately arrived at the scene. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries in this fire incident. The students who had come were directed to the field first, did not go straight to class. “All 34 Jakarta High School students were gathered in the ceremony field,” said Multazam.

- Tragedy of Bridge Collapse in India, Accident or Negligence?
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The suspension bridge that spans the Machchu River in Morbi, India, collapsed on Sunday (10/30/2022). Until this article was written, this accident was reported to have killed 134 people, 177 people were rescued, and 19 people were undergoing treatment. This number is predicted to continue to increase as the search progresses.
The cause of the collapse of the bridge is thought to be due to excess capacity. Citing ndtv.com, this suspension bridge can only accommodate about 125 people, but when the incident occurred, there were reportedly around 300–500 people on the bridge.
In fact, this 230 meter long and 1.25 meter wide bridge has been built hundreds of years ago, since the British colonial period in the 19th century, and has been operating since the 1880s.
Citing zeenews.india.com, this bridge used the best materials from Europe at that time and became one of the best civil engineering from England.
The design and construction carried out in the 19th century made this bridge still have a swaying nature when someone crossed it. This trait is also one of the tourist attractions.
This bridge is indeed experiencing a surge in visitors with the Diwali festival, Chhath Puja festival, and the reopening after being renovated over the last six months. This renovation was taken over by a private company and did not yet have a certificate of eligibility permit from the local authorities when it resumed operations on October 26, 2022.
The exact cause of this accident is still being investigated by the authorities. The reason is, there are many factors that can cause this accident to occur.
Starting from excess capacity, errors during renovation, and the presence of several irresponsible elements who deliberately shook the bridge based on witness testimony.

- Itaewon Halloween Tragedy, This is the Cause According to Citizen Theory
KOMPAS.com – The Halloween festival in the Itaewon district, Seoul, left deep sorrow for South Korea. A total of 153 people died in horrific crowds at the biggest Halloween party since Covid-19 restrictions were lifted.
Tens of thousands of people flock to the streets of Itaewon for Halloween, hanging out with friends and having fun. The incident happened on a narrow side street near Itaewon station that connects many bars and clubs from the main road.
Although Halloween is not a traditional Korean holiday, it has become an annual celebration tradition and Itaewon is well known as a place to hold such events.
The remains of the incident are still clearly plastered on the streets of Itaewon, until Sunday (30/10/2022). On Sunday afternoon, residents gathered behind police tape around Itaewon station to pay their respects to the victim and try to understand what happened hours earlier.
This is one of the worst disasters South Korea has experienced in years. The exact cause of the mob is still unknown, but many residents behind police lines want to share their theories.
“This is bound to happen. There should be crowd control,” said one resident, quoted by The Guardian. “You can never control that many people,” said a woman beside him.
Some claim a well-known vlogger has taken to the streets, causing quite a stir in an already crowded area. South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has promised a thorough investigation into the tragedy.
Details are still missing, but testimonies and social media footage show many people falling to the ground in the narrow lane, while others shoved each other into or out of it. Kim Ye-ji, a young woman from Seoul who is celebrating Halloween, arrives to lay flowers near the Itaewon station exit.
According to him, the picture of body bags lining the streets is very disappointing and invites tears. “How did this happen? I feel sorry for the families of the victims. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the pictures on social media. It’s heartbreaking and unfortunate,” he said.
