The village head of Japanrejo, Sugito, revealed that the burned house belonged to 3 people.

“There were 3 owners of the fire. Sutar the head of the RT, Sutrisno the trader and Sukijan. The source of the fire was at Sutar’s house. What did the fire come from? I don’t know, (the victim) was not at home. Sutar was in the fields, Mrs. Sutar was at the market,” said the village head of Japanrejo , Sugito when met at the location, Monday (30/1/2023).

He said, the fire occurred at around 10.30 WIB and it was suspected that the fire started from the kitchen of the house belonging to Sutar who is also the head of the local village RW.

Sugito continued, there were no casualties in this incident but the loss was estimated at hundreds of millions of rupiah.

“I asked the man to help get the cow out. The fire spread to Mr. Sutrisno’s house. The fire came from the kitchen. I was also confused, I was afraid of being hit by my house,” he explained.

Dandang Sri Sulastri admitted that she had heard an explosion from inside the house’s kitchen. “I think the stove exploded. Oh, you know. Maybe it was the stove,” he said. However, the cause of this fire is not known with certainty.

A number of combined officers from the police and fire department are still at the scene.

The gate valve is planned to be used in active wells. The workers then cut the bolts in the pipes and they were rusty.

“The officer cut the corroded bolts using a cutting tool in the form of a welding cutter. So this triggered an explosion,” said Siak Police Chief AKBP Ronald Sumaja, Tuesday (31/1/2023).

Four other burn victims were reported to have been evacuated to the hospital. However, it is not yet known for certain the current condition and identity of the survivors.

“It’s surprising that we know about it from the media,” said the police chief.

Three Killed and 800 Injured When Earthquake Rocks Iran

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TEHRAN – At least three people were killed and 800 others injured when a magnitude 5.9 earthquake hit Iran’s northwestern West Azerbaijan Province on Saturday, officials said.

The head of Iran’s National Emergency Medical Organization Jafar Miadfar said on state television broadcast that three people have been killed and 800 injured so far. West Azerbaijan Governor Mohammad Sadegh Motamedian confirmed that the victims died while visiting the areas worst affected by the earthquake. He said residential buildings in 70 villages were partially damaged by the high-intensity earthquake.

The quake occurred at 21:44 local time (0115 WIB) on Saturday with a depth of 7 kilometers (km) and was centered near the city of Khoy, which is located 807 km northwest of the capital Tehran.

The quake was felt in a number of cities, including the provincial capital and largest city Urmia, according to officials and residents. Immediately after the quake, teams from the Red Crescent in West Azerbaijan were dispatched to the worst-affected areas to assess the damage, officials said.

Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi visited Khoy City on Monday and chaired a crisis management meeting there, according to an official statement from his office.

According to Khoy residents, Saturday’s earthquake was followed by 30 aftershocks throughout the night causing panic and forcing residents to spend the night outside in the freezing cold.

Meanwhile, officials reported that more than 800 primary and secondary schools were partially damaged in Khoy city, and 88 of them were seriously damaged.

West Azerbaijan — a mountainous province bordering Turkey, Azerbaijan and Iraq — was shocked in early January by a magnitude 5.4 earthquake that rocked Khoy and caused widespread damage.

In October 2022, a magnitude 5.4 earthquake in Khoy injured 400 residents and damaged hundreds of houses in towns and villages.

Iran is in a seismically active zone and has experienced many disastrous earthquakes in the past.

The most devastating earthquake to hit the country occurred in 2013 which killed 34,000 people in the city of Bam in the southeastern province of Kerman. The earthquake had a magnitude of 6.7 on the Richter scale.

In recent months, a series of high- and medium-magnitude earthquakes hit several provinces in the south and north of Iran.

In December 2022, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake rocked the northeastern Iranian province of South Khorasan, a few weeks after a magnitude 5.4 earthquake was reported in the same area, centered in the Ersk region.

In July 2022, at least five people died and more than 80 were injured after a magnitude 6.1 earthquake rocked the southern province of Hormozgan, which lies along the coast of the Persian Gulf.

Bus Accident Takes 40 Lives in Pakistan

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, ISLAMABAD — More than 40 people died after a bus fell into a ravine in Pakistan’s southern Balochistan province on Sunday (29/1/2023). The vehicle was traveling from Balochistan’s capital, Quetta, to the southern city of Karachi.

Assistant Commissioner for Lasbela or district in Balochistan Hamza Anjum told the Dawn newspaper that the vehicle hit a bridge. This single collision caused the vehicle to fall into a ravine and catch fire.

Anjum said 41 of the 48 people on board had died. There has been no update on the condition of the remaining passengers in the vehicle.

Fatal road accidents are common in Pakistan. Traffic rules are rarely obeyed plus roads in many rural areas are in very bad condition.

Some 22 people died in June last year, including nine members of one family. This incident occurred when a passenger van fell into a deep ravine in Balochistan.

Flooded Auckland will return to heavy rains

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, WELLINGTON — The New Zealand government said that Auckland, which had been soaked by floods, would likely receive heavy rain again in the next few days. Four people died as a result of being hit by flash floods and landslides that hit Auckland in the last three days.

Rainfall has also surpassed records. Auckland is still in a state of emergency except for the Waitomo area south of the city. Air New Zealand said flights in and out of Auckland airport were still being delayed and cancelled.

Thousands of passengers were stranded including hundreds of people from abroad. Beaches and schools in the city of about 1.6 million people were closed. Schools are closed until February 7th.

“There has been significant damage across Auckland, obviously there have been a number of homes destroyed by the floods but also extensive movement of the earth,” New Zealand Prime Minister Chris Hipkins said on state television TVNZ on Tuesday (31/1/2023).

He added that around 350 people needed emergency accommodation. New Zealand’s meteorological agency, the MetService, predicts on Tuesday evening heavy rain will flush the already drenched Auckland.

“Bad weather is coming more often and we have to prepare for it,” Auckland Disaster Management task supervisor Rachel Kelleher told a news conference.

On Monday (30/1/2023) last night the Fire and Emergency Services received 30 requests for help. One of them was the roof of the car garage sliding off a hill due to an avalanche.

The council has declared 69 houses unfit for habitation and banned residents from entering them. About 300 properties are considered at risk, access to some areas is temporarily restricted.

The La Nina weather phenomenon causes more rainfall on the North Island of New Zealand than usual. New Zealand’s National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) recorded that January has rained eight times this year above the usual January average and 40 percent above the annual average.
