Wedding Group’s Deadly Accident Collisions with Trailer Truck. Two people died and dozens of others were injured

Gresik, Saturday (6/7/2024) – A tragic accident occurred on the Kebomas-Romokalisari toll road kilometer (km) 14 Kembangan Village, Kebomas District, Gresik Regency. An Isuzu Elf car collided with a trailer truck loaded with wood, resulting in two people dying and dozens of others being injured.

Head of the East Java Regional Police’s Highway Patrol (PJR) Traffic Unit, AKBP Imet Chaerudin, explained that the accident occurred at around 09.00 WIB. The Isuzu Elf car was carrying 17 passengers, who were a group of bridesmaids from Bojonegoro.

“They left from Sugihwaras District, Bojonegoro, to a wedding at a friend’s house in Kemayoran, Surabaya,” said AKBP Imet.

The chronology of the incident began when the orange-yellow Isuzu Elf car was driving in the left lane and then tried to move to the right lane to overtake the vehicle in front of it. However, at the same time, a trailer truck loaded with logs was speeding up from behind. The collision could not be avoided, causing the Isuzu Elf car to overturn and the trailer truck to crash into the toll road median.

“The trailer truck driver’s efforts to avoid a collision by braking and turning to the right were unfortunately unsuccessful. The truck climbed into the toll road median barrier because the driver was trying to avoid a collision,” added AKBP Imet.

The victims who died in this accident were Lamidin (49), the Elf driver who was a resident of Balongrejo Village, Sugihwaras, Bojonegoro, and Mugiarti (49), an Elf passenger from Sumber Wungu RT 001 RW. A total of 12 Elf passengers suffered serious and minor injuries, while three other passengers were not injured.

The trailer truck driver, Rachmad Efendi (48), a resident of Tembeling Rt 6 RW 01, Kasiman Bojonegoro, survived the accident.

Severe Fire at PT Hansol Indo Java Garment Factory, Boyolali

Boyolali, Monday (8/7/2024) – The fire that hit the PT Hansol Indo Java garment factory in Teras, Boyolali, has still not been completely extinguished. The fire, which started at around 13.30 WIB, hit the packing section of the building and to this day still leaves thick black smoke rising from the burning building.

From detikJateng’s monitoring at the location at 15.30 WIB, fire trucks and water supply tank trucks were still going back and forth at the scene. Blackout was carried out from the front of the factory as well as from the east side adjacent to residential areas.

This fire not only panicked factory employees but also local residents, especially on the east side which was directly adjacent to the burning building. Local residents stopped the fire trucks that were coming to extinguish them from the east side to avoid the fire spreading to their houses. In fact, a building shop adjacent to the fire location moved its merchandise to the back.

According to the Head of the Peace and Order Section (Kasi Trantib) of Teras District, Sri Budi Raharjo, the fire started in the packing warehouse. “This fire caused panic among employees. Female employees were immediately asked to leave the factory, while male employees were asked to help move goods inside the factory,” explained Sri Budi Raharjo at the scene.

Although there were no fatalities in this incident, a female employee who had a history of shortness of breath panicked and was treated by the medical team. “There were no victims, there were only employees who panicked because they had a history of shortness of breath, but they were treated by a medical ambulance,” added Sri Budi.

Wiji, one of the factory employees, said that the fire occurred after the lunch break when they were starting to work again. “When the fire started to appear, the employees were immediately asked to leave by instructions from management,” said Wiji.

Until this news was published, firefighting efforts were still being carried out by firefighters who came from Boyolali, Klaten, Solo and Karanganyar. It is hoped that the fire that burned down the garment packing warehouse will soon be completely extinguished so as not to endanger local residents.

Work Accident at Tapioca Starch Company, Eko Supriyanto Utomo Dies

Eko Supriyanto Utomo (36), an employee at a tapioca flour company in Jaten, Karanganyar, died allegedly as a result of a work accident on Monday (8/7/2024). This resident of Punthukrejo, Ngringo Village, Jaten was found in a seizure condition while working.

The victim’s co-worker, Dika Pradana, said that at the time of the incident, Eko was producing flour. Suddenly, Eko suddenly experienced a seizure. “The position above was 1.5 meters, it looked like a seizure. We were afraid something would happen, so we turned off the engine,” said Dika. Seeing that the victim was unconscious, Dika and his other colleagues immediately took Eko to the hospital. When he arrived at the hospital, the doctor stated that Eko had died.

According to Dika, during the body bathing procession, burn marks were found on Eko’s back. “It is possible that he was electrocuted, because there were burnt marks on the deceased’s body,” he said.

The company was aware of this condition and immediately communicated with the victim’s family. “This morning before the funeral, company representatives went to the funeral home. The information was that later the company would also take care of the deceased’s files and would be responsible,” added Dika.

This incident adds to the long list of work accidents in the industrial sector and is a reminder of the importance of occupational safety and health in the work environment. Authorities are expected to carry out further investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident and prevent similar incidents in the future.

Five Fishermen from Pangkalan Brandan adrift in the Strait of Malacca

Five fishermen from Pangkalan Brandan, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra, were stranded in the waters of the Malacca Strait after their boat sank due to being hit by big waves. Head of the Medan Basarnas Office, Mustari, revealed that the incident occurred on Sunday (7/7/2024) evening.

The fishermen’s journey began on Sunday morning, when they departed from Pangkalan Brandan to the fishing location (tuasan). They arrived at the location at around 18.00 WIB and moored their ship. However, at 19.00 WIB, a storm and high waves hit the waters, causing water to quickly enter their ship.

“Because of the large amount of water coming in, the fishermen didn’t have time to drain the boat, so their boat sank,” explained Mustari.

In emergency situations, fishermen try to save themselves by floating on the lid of the fish storage box. They were adrift in the ocean until Monday (8/7) afternoon, when a Singapore-flagged ship passed by and rescued them.

After being rescued, the Singapore ship agent reported this incident to the authorities in Indonesia, who then forwarded it to the Medan Basarnas Office. Basarnas immediately responded and sent the SAR ship RB 203 Belawan with two crew members to carry out the rescue.

“At 23.50 WIB, the SAR ship RB 203 Belawan moved towards the intercept location which is around 90 NM from Belawan Harbor to the waters of the Malacca Strait,” said Mustari.

The five fishermen finally arrived at Belawan Harbor at 04.00 WIB and were safe. They are temporarily resting on the SAR ship RB 203 Belawan to get the necessary medical assistance.

“Upon arrival at Belawan Harbor, the five fishermen were resting on the SAR RB 203 Belawan ship to receive further medical treatment,” concluded Mustari.

This incident highlights the importance of preparedness and good coordination between authorities and fishermen to deal with emergency situations at sea.

Palembang, Monday (8/7/2024) – Two perpetrators of weighted theft were arrested at the crime scene (TKP) when they stole a unit of APILL’s Safe Energy brand 12 volt 55 AHA SLA battery (traffic signal device) at Simpang Empat Patal Red Light, Jalan AKBP Tjek Agus, Subdistrict 8 Ilir, IT II District, Palembang. This incident occurred at 05.00 WIB.

The two perpetrators, Febriansyah (30), a resident of Jalan Mayor Zen, Lorong Jambu, Sei Lais Village, Kalidoni District, Palembang, and Andri Yansyah (35), a resident of Jalan Perintis Independen, Lorong Wiraguna, Kuto Batu Village, IT III District, Palembang, was arrested at the crime scene and immediately taken to the IT II Police Headquarters along with the stolen evidence for legal processing. The victim, BPTD Class II South Sumatra Ministry of Transportation, through its employee Ilham (31), has reported the incident to the IT II Police.

Palembang Police Chief, Police Commissioner Harryo Sugihhartono, accompanied by IT II Police Chief, Police Commissioner Desy Ariyanti, and Criminal Investigation Unit Head, AKP A Rafiq, in a press conference confirmed the arrest of the two perpetrators who were caught on CCTV camera carrying out the theft.

“This arrest was thanks to the preparedness of the IT II Police who were carrying out patrols and good coordination with the South Sumatra Regional Police’s CCTV command center operator. This shows that the Police, especially the Palembang Police and its staff, are ready to provide security services for community activities,” said Police Commissioner Harryo Sugihhartono in the IT II Police hall, Tuesday (9/7/2024) afternoon.

The Palembang Police Chief explained that in his action, the perpetrator used iron pliers, an iron chisel, an iron crowbar and a black Honda Beat motorbike with registration number BG 4264 ABE. Apart from that, the urine test results showed that the two perpetrators were positive for consuming amphetamines.

“These two suspects have committed similar criminal acts of theft at 10 different crime scenes. One crime scene at IT II was successfully caught red-handed, and one previous crime scene was reported by the victim to the IB II Police. Currently, we are continuing to carry out developments and are looking for another perpetrator who is still fugitive (DPO),” said Police Commissioner Harryo.

For their actions, the two suspects will be charged under Article 363 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code with a maximum prison sentence of 7 years. “We urge the agencies concerned to really place the battery or power bank in a safe place so that the function of the traffic light can run properly. To the public, do not commit theft of state property. The police together with related agencies will further increase supervision or protection, ” he said.

Meanwhile, the suspect Andri admitted his actions when interviewed. “That’s right, Sis, we specifically stole traffic light batteries and have done it 10 times. The last one was caught by the police,” he said.

Andri also admitted that the proceeds of the theft were sold to used goods dealers in the Sayangan area, Palembang. “We act every time between 04.00 – 05.00 WIB because the atmosphere is still quiet. The money is used to buy food, methamphetamine and play online gambling,” he concluded.
