Deadly Accident at Pekanbaru Workshop. Used drum exploded while welding, a worker died causing his head to be separated from his body: And 7 recent incidents in Indonesia that were shocking

Liga Asuransi – The world has again been colored by a number of tragic incidents that remind us of the risks that can occur anytime and anywhere. Starting from the explosion of a used drum that claimed lives in Pekanbaru to the ship carrying KPK and KKP officials that capsized in Bali waters, this series of incidents not only caused loss but also implied the importance of paying more attention to security and safety procedures. By raising awareness of these various risks, we see the need for strong preventive measures, careful planning and cross-sector collaboration to reduce the potential for similar disasters in the future.

Ships from the KPK and KKP groups capsized in Bali waters, large waves triggered an incident

The waters of Penyaringan Village, Mendoyo District, Jembrana Regency, Bali, became the location of an unexpected incident on Thursday, 24 October 2024, when the ship carrying a team from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) had an accident. The ship was on a field observation trip to the lobster cultivation area in Jembrana. The sea conditions were suddenly hit by large waves, causing the ship to capsize, causing around nine passengers to fall into the sea.

Chronology of Capsizing Ship Incidents

The Director General of Aquaculture at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Tb Haeru Rahayu, explained the chronology of the incident. According to him, the team from the Deputy for Prevention and Monitoring of the Corruption Eradication Committee together with the KKP team initially went to the lobster cultivation location for a series of field observations. However, big waves in Jembrana waters caused the ship to lose its balance and capsize, which forced all the passengers to face a critical moment at sea.

“Luckily, all passengers immediately received first aid at the Mendoyo Community Health Center after being successfully evacuated from the sea. “Currently, several victims who suffered minor injuries have been referred to the State Hospital for further treatment,” said Haeru.

Congratulations, No Casualties

Haeru confirmed that there were no casualties in this incident. Various parties were immediately mobilized for rescue and evacuation at the accident site. “Emergency response steps have been carried out by the KKP together with other related parties, ensuring that all victims are handled properly and prioritizing the recovery of their health,” he added.

Support from Various Parties

Coordination continues to be carried out by the KKP and KPK in handling this incident. KPK spokesperson, Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto, also said that at the time of the incident, the ship was carrying teams from several agencies, including the KKP Inspectorate, the Directorate General of Treasury of the Ministry of Finance, and the Directorate General of Marine and Fisheries Resources Supervision (Ditjen PSDKP).

“The condition of the KPK team is currently stable. “However, we are still waiting for complete information from the hospital regarding other victims outside the KPK,” said Tessa when confirmed on Friday, October 25 2024.

Emergency Recovery and Response Steps

As a follow-up step, the KKP promised to continue to monitor the condition of victims and carry out cross-agency coordination to ensure operational security in the field. This accident is also a reminder of the importance of being alert to extreme weather conditions, especially in water areas that have high activity in the fisheries and marine sectors.

All victims are now being adequately treated, and the relevant parties will continue to carry out recovery so that similar incidents can be anticipated in the future.

An explosion occurred at PT Dexin Steel Indonesia’s nickel processing factory, one employee died and others were injured

A work accident in the PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) area, Central Sulawesi, has claimed another life. On Friday, October 25 2024, an explosion occurred at the nickel processing plant belonging to PT Dexin Steel Indonesia (DSI) at around 16.30 WITA. This incident caused an employee named Laode Gunawan to die, while another employee was injured.

The Daily Chair of the Morowali Industrial Workers Union-Confederation of Indonesian Labor Associations (SPIM-KPBI), Komang Jordi, expressed strong condemnation of this repeated incident. “The company seems to ignore the safety of workers. These repeated incidents always make workers victims,” he stressed in a written statement.

Dedy Kurniawan, Media Relations Head of PT IMIP, confirmed that this accident occurred in PT DSI’s stainless steel department. According to Dedy, one victim who survived only suffered minor injuries. “The cause of the accident is still under investigation,” said Dedy.

This is not the first time an explosion has occurred in the same industrial area. A similar incident also occurred at PT Indonesia Tsingshan Stainless Steel (ITSS) on December 24 2023, which killed 21 workers. Six months later, on June 13 2024, another explosion rocked ITSS, causing two workers to be injured. This series of incidents caused concern and anger among workers.

Henry Foord Jebss, Chairman of the IMIP Mining and Energy Industry Workers Union (SBIPE), has repeatedly urged the government to immediately conduct a comprehensive audit of all smelters operating in the IMIP area. “We demand an audit by an independent team involving labor unions, as has been the demand since the ITSS tragedy last year,” stressed Henry.

These recurring tragedies call for more serious attention to work safety in industrial areas. The workers hope for concrete steps from the company and government to stop this recurring tragedy.

Deadly Accident at Pekanbaru Workshop. Used drum exploded while welding, a worker died causing his head to be separated from his body

A tragic work accident incident occurred at a workshop on Jalan Srikandi, Delima Village, Bina Widya District, Pekanbaru City, on Monday, October 21 2024. A workshop worker, Hendri Saputra Hidayat (24), died after a drum of used oil he was welding exploded, causing a fatal injury that separated his head from his body.

This terrible incident took place at around 17.15 WIB in the area in front of the workshop. Based on the testimony of an eyewitness who is also the owner of the workshop, Hendri initially asked permission to move the used oil drum to the front of the workshop with the aim of joining the drum together using welding. The workshop owner agreed to the request, without realizing the danger that lurked.

Binawidya Police Chief, Commissioner Asep Rahmat, confirmed the incident when confirmed in the evening. According to Kompol Asep, when the workshop owner and other employees were inside, they heard a loud explosion from the front area of the workshop. When they rushed to the location, they found Hendri had died in a terrible condition. “The victim died with his body separated from his head, and local people immediately came to see the incident,” explained Asep.

One of the residents who was at the location immediately reported this incident to the local Bhabinkamtibmas. Currently, Hendri’s body has been taken to the Bhayangkara Regional Police Hospital in Riau for an autopsy to further investigate the cause of the explosion. It is suspected that the used oil drum that the victim was welding still contained flammable residue, causing a large explosion when it was hit by sparks from the welding machine.

This accident reminds us of the importance of safety and strict security procedures in the work environment, especially when dealing with potentially hazardous materials. It is hoped that the authorities can evaluate work safety procedures in the workshop, as well as increase workers’ awareness of the dangers of flammable or explosive materials.

A large fire engulfs a ship carrying cattle on the north coast of Bangkalan. Losses Reach Hundreds of Millions of Rupiah

Bangkalan, Madura – Saturday night (26/10/2024), the waters of the North Coast of Bangkalan, East Java, were shocked by a severe fire incident that hit a ship carrying cattle. The fire, which was thought to have been caused by an electrical short circuit in the ship’s engine, burned most of the ship’s wooden buildings.

At the time of the incident, no fatalities were reported. However, the ship owner’s losses are estimated at hundreds of millions of rupiah. Panic struck residents who watched the fire from the beach. In the dark night, they screamed and tried to find out who owned the burning ship.

The ship is known to belong to residents of Telaga Biru Village and is in the process of being repaired due to previous damage. “It is currently suspected that the fire originated from a spark caused by a short circuit in the electric current of the water suction machine or generator,” said Head of the Bangkalan Police Police Headquarters, Inspector Muarib.

Local residents felt helpless because the fire spot was located quite far from the shoreline, so they could not provide help. The police are currently investigating further to determine the exact cause of the fire.

This incident is a reminder of the importance of safety and routine inspections of ships, especially those used to transport livestock. It is hoped that preventive steps can be taken to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents in the future.

The flyover building at Wameo Baubau Market collapsed, two victims were injured and it crushed nearby vehicles

Baubau, Southeast Sulawesi – A building that resembles an overpass at Wameo Market, Baubau City, collapsed on Monday (28/10/2024) at around 12.30 WITA. This incident resulted in two people being injured and hitting nine vehicles, including two four-wheeled vehicles and seven two-wheeled vehicles.

The evacuation process was dramatic, involving officers from BPBD, Damkar, Basarnas, Satpol PP, as well as the police and TNI. They worked together using heavy equipment to lift the rubble of the collapsed building. Hundreds of residents, including local traders, gathered to witness the rescue efforts which were also attended by the Acting Mayor of Baubau City, Muh Rasman Manafi, and a number of Heads of the Baubau City Government OPD.

According to the observations of one resident, the building that fell had the word Allah and appeared to be integrated with the nearby Islamic Center building. Previously, banners had been put up at the building site urging the public not to carry out activities in the building’s lobby area because it was considered risky.

Acting Mayor of Baubau City, Muh Rasman Manafi, explained that the building that collapsed was an asset of the Regional Settlement and Infrastructure Center of the Ministry of PUPR. Because the assets have not been handed over to the Baubau City Government, they cannot immediately carry out repairs.

“We have written to the asset owner to immediately handle and repair this building. “This is very dangerous for society,” said Muh Rasman. He added that his party had taken preventive steps by placing a warning not to do activities around the building.

Until now, there is no definite estimate of losses due to the building collapse. The local government is still collecting data to determine the exact cause of this incident. “We are still looking for detailed information regarding the cause. “Currently, our focus is on dealing with the impact of this incident,” he concluded.
