Deadly Accident on Solo-Ngawi Toll Road, Elf Car Seriously Damaged After Hitting Truck and Six People Killed, Dozens Others Injured

Boyolali, July 13 2024 – A tragic accident occurred at Kilometer 497+800 B of the Solo-Ngawi Toll Road, Ngemplak District, Boyolali Regency, Central Java, early Saturday morning at around 04.00 WIB. This incident involved an Isuzu Elf minibus and a truck loaded with light bricks, resulting in six people dying on the spot.

The Isuzu Elf minibus with license plate number AG 7710 V crashed into the back of the truck H 8593 NG which was carrying a load of light bricks. As a result of the collision, the left side of the Elf’s body, which was carrying a group of tourists from Surabaya to Yogyakarta, was damaged. “They will carry out a tour from Surabaya to Yogyakarta, there are 22 passengers,” said Boyolali Resort Police Chief (Kapolres) AKBP Petrus Parningotan Silalahi, quoted from Antara.

In this incident, six of the 22 Elf passengers died, while 14 other people suffered minor injuries, and two people escaped without injury.

Alleged Cause of Accident

The Boyolali Police together with the Traffic Accident Analysis (TAA) team of the Central Java Regional Police (Polda) and related parties have carried out a crime scene investigation (TKP). Based on the results of the interim investigation, the accident is thought to have been caused by the minibus driver being sleepy. Additionally, there are suggestions that the Elf was overloaded, which may have caused the brakes to not function properly. “Whether the overcapacity results in the brakes not functioning properly, we will later develop the inquiry and investigation by inviting several experts,” explained the Boyolali Police Chief.

The fatalities in this accident have been taken to Pandan Arang Regional Hospital, Boyolali, while other injured victims were rushed to UNS Hospital and Dr Moewardi Regional Hospital, Solo.

Accident Background

The group of tourists in the minibus planned to go on a tourist trip from Surabaya to Yogyakarta. Unfortunately, their trip turns into a tragedy when the minibus crashes into a truck on the highway. Police officers and medical teams immediately arrived at the location to provide assistance and evacuation.

Follow-up Efforts

The police will continue to investigate the exact cause of this accident. Driver fatigue factors and possible overloading will be the main focus of further investigation. The authorities will also coordinate with experts to obtain a more in-depth analysis of the incident.

This accident is a reminder of the importance of safety when driving, especially on toll roads which require high concentration and caution. Vehicle fatigue and overcapacity can have fatal consequences, as happened in this tragic incident in Boyolali.

Huge Fire at Mojokerto Plastic Seeds Warehouse, Two Trucks Burnt Down

Mojokerto, 15 July 2024 – A major fire broke out at a plastic pellet processing and storage warehouse in Mlaten Village, Puri District, Mojokerto Regency, on Monday afternoon. Thick black smoke and flames quickly engulfed the outside of the warehouse and spread to the middle of the building.

Mojokerto Fire Department (Damkar) officers who arrived at the location tried to extinguish the fire from outside the building. However, the extinguishing process was hampered because the warehouse door was locked from the inside. Firefighters together with the Mojokerto Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) team finally managed to break down the door and enter the warehouse to extinguish the fire.

Apart from the pile of plastic pellets, two trucks in the warehouse were also burnt down. One of the residents, Didit, initially thought the fire was just ordinary rubbish burning and didn’t pay much attention to it. However, when the fire got bigger, residents realized that a big fire had occurred.

“Earlier, at a quarter past 2, I thought it wasn’t a fire, the rubbish was deliberately set on fire. We thought it was only five minutes past 2, there was a fire and the fire was getting bigger,” he said.

This plastic processing and storage warehouse is known to be tightly closed without a company nameplate and was established about a year ago. The fire was successfully extinguished after four fire engines were deployed to the location. Within an hour, the fire was under control.

As a result of this fire, an employee suffered an injury to his leg because he tried to get out of the warehouse by jumping over the wall. The employee immediately received medical treatment from the PMI team on site.

Until now, the exact cause of the fire is still being investigated by the authorities. This fire reminds the importance of security and safety systems in the workplace to prevent similar incidents in the future.
