11 People, Including 2 Children Killed in Car Fire in Thailand
Bangkok – A severe van accident occurred in Thailand, killing 11 people, including two children. It was reported that one person survived the horrific incident.
As reported by AFP, Monday (23/1/2023), the accident started when a van carrying 12 people was traveling from Amnat Charoen to Bangkok on Saturday (21/1) evening. The car suddenly turned off the road in Nakhon Ratchasima.
Police Colonel Yingyos Poldej said a man managed to climb out the window. But the other passengers were trapped and died in the blaze.
Yingyos said the van runs on pressurized oil and gas. But initial reports found that the gas tank was not leaking.
“We suspect the fire was caused by fuel,” he said, adding they were still investigating what caused the vehicle to veer off course.
The surviving victim, Thanachit Kingkaew, is a 20-year-old student. He admitted that he was asleep when the accident happened. Kingkaew then jerked up after hearing someone shout.
“I woke up, and the next thing I knew, the van had flipped over. I didn’t see what had happened,” he said.
“After the accident, the fire started to devour the entire van starting from the back,” Kingkaew added.
“I started kicking the window and managed to crawl through a small hole. Soon after, the van exploded,” he said.
Nikhom Seaun, a volunteer with a local rescue team, said the van exploded just seconds after it was engulfed in flames.
“It took less than 30 seconds to burn the entire van,” he said.
“I couldn’t do anything with the fire extinguisher I had. The van then exploded three to four times,” Seaun added.

Fire in Slum Area in Seoul, 500 People Evacuated
Seoul – Around 500 people had to be evacuated on Friday (20/1) after a fire engulfed a slum area in Seoul, South Korea (South Korea). The fire reportedly destroyed dozens of houses, but there have been no reports of casualties.
As reported by Reuters Friday (20/1/2023), the local fire authority said that the first fire appeared at around 06:27 local time in the Guryong Village area, southern Seoul, which is home to 660 families.
Seoul fire service officials said that the fire damaged about 40 houses in an area of 1,700 square meters. About 290 personnel were deployed to the location to extinguish the fire, assisted by 10 helicopters and police personnel.
So far, there have been no reports of casualties from the fire.
President Yoon Suk Yeol is attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. But according to his spokesperson, Kim Eun Hye, President Yoon has ordered a thorough effort to minimize the damage and deployed all available firefighters and equipment.
Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Lee Sang Min also instructed local officials to prevent secondary damage and protect residents.
Guryong Village, one of the last remaining slum areas in Seoul, has become a symbol of inequality in Asia’s fourth-largest economy. Guryong Village is right next to Gangnam’s affluent and flashy district. The slum area is also prone to fires, floods, and other natural disasters, with most of the residents’ houses built with cardboard and wood. Residents are also easily exposed to safety and health problems.
Redevelopment and relocation plans have made little headway amid decades of a tug-of-war between landowners, residents, and government.
Seoul Mayor Oh Se Hoon has visited the slum area and asked officials to work out steps to relocate those affected by the fire.

A Mineral Water Truck Collides with a Cement Truck on the Inner City Highway, One Driver Dies on the Spot
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Two trucks were involved in an accident on the Inner City Toll Road, KM 3,650 to be precise, Tuesday (24/1/2023) around 03.37 WIB. The driver of one of the trucks died on the spot.
Head of PJR Unit of Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya AKBP Sutikno revealed the trucks involved in the accident were trucks with BL 8646 AK plates loaded with cement and light trucks with B 9129 KYT plates loaded with mineral water.
“According to the information from the truck driver, the two trucks drove from Bogor to Jakarta,” said Sutikno via text message to Kompas.com, Tuesday morning. “At KM 3,650, right on lane three, a light truck hit the back of a truck,” he continued.
Based on the analysis of officers in the field, light truck drivers cannot keep their distance so when the truck in front of them brakes, the truck behind them cannot anticipate. A rear collision was inevitable.
Sacks of cement and bottles of mineral water that were transported by the two trucks scattered onto the streets. The driver of a light truck loaded with mineral water named Baharudin died at the scene. Meanwhile, Baharudin’s colleagues named Kurnidin and Faisal were seriously injured.
The traffic accident case has now been handed over to the East Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit for investigation. The accident caused traffic jams on the Inner City Toll Road to the city center.
However, officers immediately cleaned up the spilled cement and mineral water bottles so that the road could be crossed again.
