Fishing Boat from Ujunggenteng Village Destroyed by Waves in the Indian Ocean, 1 Crew Missing

A tragedy struck the waters of the Indian Ocean when a fishing boat from Ujunggenteng Village, Sukabumi Regency, West Java, had an accident due to being hit by a wave. Four fishermen sailed to fish, but misfortune befell them. Although three were rescued, one fisherman is still missing to this day.

The motor ship with the hull name HDR departed on Friday morning in initially clear weather. However, a drastic change in weather occurred at around 15.00 WIB, with strong winds, heavy rain and high waves. The skipper, Hadsur, faced difficulty controlling his boat, and within a short time, high waves damaged the motorboat.

The captain and three crew members jumped into the sea and drifted to the Lampung area. By using buoys and floating items, they try to survive in the middle of the sea. Although he managed to reunite, Deden was separated from his colleagues, who tried to move ashore without success due to high waves.

Luckily, KM MV Martha Baruna from PT Bahtera Adhiguna passed through the waters of the Lampung Sea and succeeded in evacuating three victims. However, a search is still underway to find Deden who is missing in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The joint SAR team from Sukabumi and South Lampung Regencies united to continue search efforts, scouring the waters in the hope of finding fishermen who are still missing.

The Sukabumi Police Satpolairud, in collaboration with the Harbormaster of South Lampung Beach, continues to coordinate efforts to search for and hand over the three fishermen who were rescued. Meanwhile, the family and local residents are waiting for news and hope to see Deden found safe.

Fire Burns Project Workers’ Mess and Eight Motorbikes in West Jakarta

Monday (22/1/2024) afternoon, a fire broke out in a three-story semi-permanent building which served as a mess for project workers on Jalan Puri Indah, Kembangan, West Jakarta. This incident caused eight motorbikes belonging to the workers to catch fire.

The fire quickly spread and consumed the entire 300 square meter shelter building. The building was used by project workers who were busy building an apartment at that time. The condition of the building which contains a lot of flammable materials makes the fire difficult to control. It is suspected that the fire was triggered by an electrical short circuit on the second floor of the building.

The Head of Kembangan Selatan Urban Village, Pradana Putra, said, “The object that caught fire was a worker’s bunkhouse belonging to PT Ampi Puri Indah Mall. Earlier we saw that we had just combed about 8 motorbikes that were on fire. When the fire started, it was thought that an electrical short circuit came from the 2nd floor.”

The West Jakarta Fire Department immediately moved quickly by deploying 11 units and 55 personnel to extinguish the fire. Even though it was only extinguished within an hour, losses due to the fire were estimated at hundreds of millions of rupiah.

Luckily, there were no fatalities or injuries in the incident. However, this incident reminds us of the importance of safety and vigilance in using electricity as well as the need for preventive measures to prevent the risk of fire in construction areas and building projects.
