Minimarket robbery in Indramayu. Employees Threatened with Guns
A terrible robbery occurred in Gabus Kulon Village, Gabus Wetan District, Indramayu Regency, West Java, on the evening of Saturday 10 February. A perpetrator, wearing a helmet and face covering, entered the minimarket and immediately pointed a firearm at the cashier without saying a word.
In his action, the perpetrator threatened the minimarket employee by pointing the gun he was carrying. Surveillance camera footage shows the perpetrator acting alone, carrying a firearm. As a result of this robbery, the perpetrator managed to make off with a sum of money from the cashier’s drawer and dozens of packs of cigarettes from the minimarket window.
According to Windari, one of the minimarket employees, they initially didn’t realize that the minimarket was going to be robbed. “I was using my cellphone at the cashier, looking at the group and making a report. Suddenly, I thought the person was going to shop, I was still relaxed at that time. But when my friend, also an employee, ran behind me, I just saw and I was shocked when I saw the gun. I was silent, I wondered if this was real? Usually when people shop they like to joke, right?” he said on February 12, 2024.
After realizing that it was a robbery, Windari stated that the minimarket employees were threatened with the firearms carried by the perpetrator.
“After that, he told us all to be quiet. At that time, there were five of us (employees). The perpetrator, who was acting alone without any colleagues, threatened us to lie down while pointing a gun. He managed to take cigarettes and around Rp. 2 million from the cashier. “So, the total loss is estimated at IDR 3 million to IDR 4 million,” he said.
Windari also continued that the robbery occurred when the weather was raining and the minimarket was quiet. “If you look at the CCTV footage, the incident occurred at around 19.00 WIB. At that time, it was raining so the minimarket was quiet. Usually, at that time it is still busy. Usually, in front of the minimarket there are children gathered, but because it was raining a little, “So it was quiet and no one knew. The guns weren’t fired, we were just threatened,” he added.
Gabus Wetan Police Chief, AKP Agus Kristiana, confirmed that the robbery incident which allegedly used a firearm actually occurred. “On Saturday, at around 19.05 WIB in Gabus Kulon Village, a violent theft occurred at one of the minimarkets, which was carried out by the perpetrator allegedly using a firearm pointed at the minimarket employee,” he said when checking the scene.
Agus also explained that the perpetrator managed to get away with cash, electronic money filled in via the Ovo application, and dozens of packs of cigarettes. “What was taken was an Ovo top up worth IDR 500 thousand, cash in the cashier’s drawer amounting to IDR 1.8 million, and 39 packs of cigarettes, totaling IDR 3,888,000,” he explained.
Based on the interim investigation, Agus stated that there was only one person involved and was wearing a helmet and face covering when carrying out the action. “The perpetrator and the weapons used by the perpetrator are still under investigation, but from CCTV footage it can be seen that the perpetrator was wearing a helmet and face covering,” he said.
In the robbery incident, there were no fatalities or injuries. The perpetrator only threatened by pointing the weapon he was carrying. “There were no threats of violence, only the pointing of guns, no shots and no abuse,” he said.
