Elevator Falls in Kasihan Bantul, 1 Worker Kills

Bantul – A resident of Gamping, Sleman, with the initials HS (28), died after having a work accident in Bantul. The cause is suspected because the goods lift straps came loose.

Head of Public Relations of the Bantul Police Iptu I Nengah Jeffry said the incident started when the victim pushed plastic material into the freight elevator at his workplace in Senggotan, Tirtonirmolo Village, Kapanewon Kasihan, Bantul this afternoon. Furthermore, suddenly the victim fell with the elevator down.

“Before the lift was activated or taken down by the operator, the lift and the victim and the material fell, and the lift strap came loose,” said Jeffry to reporters Saturday (11/3/2023).

This shocked the other workers, and they immediately checked the victim’s condition. However, the victim did not move at all from the crash site.

This was then reported to the Kasihan Police and medical officers. From the examination results, the medical staff suspected the victim’s death was due to an intense collision with iron.

“The medical officer said that there was no element of physical violence committed by other people, so this was purely a work accident,” he said.

“For the cause of death, it is possible that the victim fell with the elevator and hit the iron,” continued Jeffry.

However, Jeffry said ascertaining the cause of the victim’s death requires further research.

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia — The Center for Investigation and Development of Geological Disaster Technology (BPPTKG) noted that Mount Merapi had spewed hot clouds of avalanches 60 times as of Monday (13/3) today.

“On March 11-12, 2023, Mount Merapi launched hot clouds towards Bebeng River. Until now, Monday, March 13, 2023, there have been 60 incidents of hot clouds falling on Mount Merapi,” said Head of BPPTKG, Agus Budi Santoso, in his statement.

Meanwhile, based on monitoring aerial photos using drones, the sliding distance of the hot clouds that fell this time reached 3.7 km from the peak of Mount Merapi.

Based on these data, the current potential hazard is lava avalanches and hot clouds falling at several points. Namely, Woro River is 3 km from the summit, and Gendol River is 5 km from the meeting.

The potential for danger is also in the Boyong River, 5 km from the summit, and Bedog, Krasak, Bebeng Rivers, 7 km from the meeting.

“Meanwhile, the ejection of volcanic material, if an explosive eruption occurs, can reach a radius of 3 km from the summit,” said Agus.

Furthermore, Agus also appealed to the public to be aware of the potential dangers of lava. Because currently, the DIY region is in the rainy season.

“As the rainy season is still occurring in DIY and Central Java, the BPPTKG urges the public to be aware of the danger of lava, especially when it rains at peak,” he said.
