A Masters’s student from the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB), Laila Atika Sari (26), suffered a tragic fate after the laboratory conducting her research caught fire. At the time of the incident, Laila was focused on her thesis research.
“Her research is related to her thesis. It’s true, (Laila) is in the final stage of her studies,” said Yatri Indah Kusumastuti, Head of the IPB Communications Bureau, to reporters at IPB Dramaga on Monday (21/8/2023).
Yatri also talked about the campus’ view of Laila. According to him, Laila was recognized as an outstanding student in the academic field.
“Laila’s success in academics counts a lot. She receives monthly scholarships and financial support for her research,” he said.
Laila, who is a Masters’s student at the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Feed Nutrition, is currently researching the analysis of fat in feed.
“The fire did not damage the laboratory, although some of the equipment was damaged by contact with the fire. However, the fire did not affect the physical building,” explained Yatri.
Previously, Yatri explained that IPB evaluated all laboratories after this tragic incident. There are around 300 laboratories in IPB that will be considered.
“We have formed three teams. The first is an investigation team to understand the exact cause of this incident so that similar incidents will not be repeated. We hope this incident will be the first and last. It will not happen again at IPB,” said Yatri Indah Kusumastuti to reporters at IPB Dramaga.
“We also formed a team to evaluate all laboratories at IPB. In this campus, 300 laboratories must ensure their safety,” he added.

Overturned Truck Loaded with Cans of Milk in Pantura Indramayu: Residents Fight Over Scattered Reject Products
The truck carrying a load of liquid milk in cans had an accident. It overturned on the Pantura route in the Langut Village area, Lohbener District, Indramayu Regency, West Java, Monday (21/8/2023). The contents of milk cans were scattered on the road.
Residents enthusiastically approached and fought over the canned milk. Video footage of crowds of residents flocking to and fighting over these cans of milk has gone viral on social media. Several residents were seen bringing canned milk home in large or plastic sacks.
The owner of the canned milk cargo did not object to the residents’ actions. Canned milk scattered on the road is known to be a product unsuitable for sale or is commonly referred to as a “reject” product.
“We can no longer use the cargo because a lot of it leaked and broke. This is a rejected product. Therefore, when residents come to pick it up, we just let it go,” said Darsim, a representative for the milk-producing company.
Darsim even felt grateful to see the crowd of residents who had come to pick up the scattered cans of milk. With this action, they don’t have to bother cleaning the streets from spilled milk cans.
“At first, we were confused about how to get rid of the leftovers. If we were to take it, it would just become trash. However, we are very grateful that the residents help clean up the streets, so we don’t have to bother cleaning it ourselves,” added Darsim.
Darsim explained that his party had sorted the goods after the canned milk transport truck had an accident. As a result, around 30 percent of the cargo was deemed unfit for sale, and residents were allowed to take it. Meanwhile, the remaining 70 percent in good condition remain safe.
Regarding the accident incident, it was reported that the truck carrying the cargo of canned milk had previously come from East Java and was on its way to Cikarang. It is suspected that the driver fell asleep, lost control, and hit the median. The truck eventually rolled over to the left side of the road.
“This incident did not result in any fatalities or injuries. The driver and passengers were only in shock,” said the Head of the Indramayu Police, AKBP M Fahri Siregar, through the Head of the Traffic Unit, AKP Bagus Yudo.
The truck involved in the accident was evacuated to the Loh Bener Police Headquarters. “The Indramayu Police Traffic Traffic Unit is handling this case,” Bagus explained.
