Warehouse of Household Furniture Burns in Mataram, Losses Rp 5 Billion

On Tuesday (23/5/2023) in the early morning at around 00.00 WITA, a warehouse supplier of household furniture items in Jalan Ramayana, Negara Sakah Barat Neighborhood, Cakra Timur Village, Cakranegara District, Mataram City, NTB, experienced a severe fire which resulting in an estimated loss of Rp. 5 billion.

According to the Head of Sandubaya Police, Kompol Mohamad Nasrullah, the warehouse is a warehouse for suppliers of glassware and household furniture who are official agents for the islands of Lombok and Sumbawa.

An eyewitness, Gede Aria Mahendra (30), said that the fire first appeared from the left corner of the warehouse and quickly spread to the 18 blocks of rooms next to it. The warehouse was originally a boarding house consisting of 18 rooms before being rented by Bagus Sulistyo and converted into a warehouse.

The fire extinguishing was carried out by the Mataram City Fire Department team with the help of BPBD, West Nusa Tenggara Police personnel, Mataram Police, Sandubaya Police, Cakranegara Koramil, and Mataram City Satpol PP. After 11 units of fire engines were deployed, the fire was finally extinguished at 03.25 WITA.

Nasrullah stated that the exact cause of the fire could not be ascertained. Therefore, the warehouse owner is asked to immediately make a police report so that further investigations can be carried out.

Mataram Police Chief, Kombes Mustofa, revealed that the results of witness examinations showed that the fire started in the middle of the building where goods were stored, including rice cookers and plastic goods. The large number of flammable plastic items is a factor in the rapid fire spread.

So far, no reports of injuries or fatalities due to the fire have occurred. However, the warehouse suffered a material loss of Rp 5 billion, according to Bagus Sulistyo, the warehouse owner.

Bagus explained that he did not live there and that his nephew lived in the warehouse. His nephew saw something hot and immediately ran away when he saw the fire. Apart from damaging property, the fire also scorched a Honda Vario motorcycle. Bagus suspects the fire started due to an electrical short in the warehouse.

Bantul – The fire occurred in the Maju Lancar bus garage, Jalan Jogja-Wonosari, Kapanewon Banguntapan, Bantul Regency. One bus caught fire as a result of the incident.

A resident of Banguntapan, Edy Purnomo, explained that initially, he knew there was a fire around 19.30 WIB. Next, Edy looked for the location of the source of the fire.

“It was already on fire, around half past 8. But it went out about an hour later,” he told journalists Tuesday (23/5/2023).

According to him, the fire originated from burning tires in the garage. One bus caught fire as a result of the incident.

“Some were burnt by the entrusted bus, but only a few on the side. Thank God there were no casualties,” he said.

“Earlier, I left the prayer. I don’t know what time it happened. If it (the bus caught fire), yes, but the bus that caught fire was not used,” he said.

Regarding the cause of the fire due to burning garbage, Didit suspects that. However, behind all that, Didit was grateful that there were no casualties in the incident.
