TKW from Lampung stranded at Soetta Airport due to sudden flight cancellation
Purwaningsih, a female worker (TKW) from Lampung, experienced confusion and anxiety when she found out that the flight that was supposed to take her home to Lampung, Lion Air JT 242 from Terminal 2 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Soetta), Tangerang City, Banten, on Saturday, May 26, 2024 at 18.00 WIB, suddenly cancelled.
In his story to Tempo at Soetta Airport on Sunday, May 26 2024, Pur revealed that he had just got off a China Airlines flight and planned to only transit briefly in Jakarta before continuing his flight to Lampung. However, when he was about to check in for the next flight, he was surprised to find out that the flight had been diverted to 14.20 WIB.
“I couldn’t check in outside. I had to go in. It turned out (the flight) was diverted at 14.20 WIB. Even though I was still on the plane,” he said.
Pur felt threatened and confused because he did not have information regarding the cancellation beforehand. His boss bought his return ticket from Taiwan, so notification of the flight cancellation came via his boss’s e-mail. Even though he had been informed that his flight would be diverted the next day, Pur chose not to wait overnight at the airport and decided to buy a travel ticket to Lampung.
“I’ve got travel and I’ll be picked up here because my luggage is heavy,” he said.
Pur admitted that he did not know whether compensation was given to replace overnight tickets while waiting for the next flight. However, because he already wanted to return to Lampung, he chose to travel.
Meanwhile, the notice board at Soetta Airport informed that 4 Lion Air and Batik Air flights had been canceled at the same time as the Pur flight. However, until this news was written, PT Lion Group had not provided an answer regarding the cause of the cancellation.
