Horrific Workplace Accident at PT KTM: 100°C Liquid Sprays, Killing One Person
Lamongan Police are currently investigating a tragic work accident that occurred at PT Kebun Tebu Mas (KTM) Sugar Factory, Ngimbang District, which killed Kunarto (41), a resident of Sidoarjo, on Monday morning (29/9/2025).
Head of Public Relations of Lamongan Police, First Inspector M Hamzaid, confirmed the incident and explained that currently The Criminal Investigation Unit is currently conducting an investigation to determine the causes and occupational safety standards in the factory.
Based on witness statements, the incident began on Sunday (28/9) at around 23.30 WIB when the channel…flash tank experienced a blockage. Kunarto, as the technical team leader, instructed five team members—Darmaji, Ari Joko, Gandi, Darminto, and Kartono—to repair the system to prevent production from halting.
Initially, the team tried to open the outlet pipe bolts but failed, so Kunarto ordered the use of a blender pipe, although some members considered it high risk. At around 2:30 a.m. WIB, palm sap liquid at 100°C suddenly sprayed from the pipe, hitting Kunarto’s body on the 12 meter high platform, causing him to fall.
One of the team members, Darmaji, was also splashed with hot liquid on his hand. The scene was filled with smoke, and the team was only able to evacuate the victim 30 minutes later. Kunarto was pronounced dead with burns on his body and was rushed to the hospital Ngimbang Regional Hospital.
The police are currently questioning a number of witnesses and gathering evidence to determine the causal factors and compliance with occupational safety standards at the factory.

The incident began around 9:40 a.m. WIB when local residents reported the flames to the fire station. Just nine minutes later, a fire engine was deployed to provide an initial response.
At the time of the incident, residents panicked as the fire spread rapidly. Officers quickly extinguished the fire and secured the area to prevent anyone from approaching. According to reports, the fire started when an employee was ironing clothes and heard the sound of gas leaking from the iron, which then triggered the explosion.
The fire was successfully localized at 9:52 a.m. WIB and declared completely extinguished at 10:02 a.m. WIB. Although there were no fatalities, material losses from the fire are estimated at Rp. 150 million.

A horrific single accident occurred on Jalan Mainroad 5/6, Division III area of PT Berkat Cipta Abadi, Selil Village, Ulilin District, Merauke, South Papua, on Friday (26/9).
A tanker truck carrying palm oil (CPO) with police number PA 9488 GF driven by YB overturned into a ditch after losing control due to slippery road conditions following heavy rain.
This tragic incident claimed the life of a two-year-old toddler, identified as KS. Meanwhile, the driver, YB, and another passenger, MMT, suffered serious injuries.
Merauke Police Chief, AKBP Leonardo Yoga, confirmed the incident through Public Relations Chief First Inspector Andre MS. He explained that the Muting Police, along with officers, residents, and the company, immediately conducted an evacuation and processed the crime scene.
“Officers immediately secured the scene, interviewed witnesses, and gathered evidence to determine the cause of the accident. Initial suspicions are that the truck skidded due to the wet road and the driver’s carelessness,” he said.
The two injured victims have been referred to Merauke Regional Hospital for medical treatment, while KS’s body was taken to the funeral home in the Division III PT Berkat Cipta Abadi complex before being buried in Merauke.

An expedition truck was destroyed by fire while queuing to board a ship at Pier 1 of Merak Port, Banten. The fire broke out early Friday (September 26) at around 12:05 a.m. WIB.
Before the flames erupted, witnesses saw smoke billowing from the truck’s box, which was carrying various packages bound for Lampung. The Cilegon Fire Department received a report of the fire at 12:24 a.m. WIB.
“Yes, last night there was an incident involving a truck catching fire. The fire brigade team was immediately deployed to the location,” said Cilegon Fire Brigade Platoon Commander, TB Hujaemi.
The firefighting process was dramatic because the fire spread so quickly. It took more than three hours to completely control the blaze.
