- 36 People Killed in Factory Fire in China
Beijing – A fire broke out in a factory in central China. At least 36 people died and two others were missing as a result of the fire.
As reported by AFP, Tuesday (22/11/2022), a report by the Xinhua news agency said a fire had engulfed a factory owned by Kaixinda Trading Co., Ltd. in the city of Anyang, Henan Province on Monday (21/11) afternoon local time. The first report about the fire was received at 16.22 local time.
“After receiving the warning, the local county firefighting detachment immediately dispatched troops to the scene,” state broadcaster CCTV reported, citing local authorities.
“Public security, emergency response, city government, and power supply units rushed to the scene at the same time to carry out emergency response and rescue efforts,” the CCTV report added.
It was also stated that the fire had been extinguished at around 23.00 local time.
The cause of this fire is not yet clearly known. But local authorities announced the arrest of “a number of criminal suspects” in connection with the fire, without providing further details.
Footage from the scene shared by state media showed thick black smoke rising into the sky from the blaze, with at least two fire trucks in position to extinguish the blaze.
CCTV also reported that apart from the 36 people who died, two others were rushed to a local hospital due to their injuries. It was explained that the injuries were not life-threatening.
Incidents at industrial parks are quite common in China, usually due to lax safety standards and corruption among the officials charged with enforcing them.
The fire in Anyang city occurred after an explosion reportedly rocked a chemical factory in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province on Monday (21/11) local time.
Meanwhile, last June, at least one person died and another person was injured in an explosion at a chemical factory in Shanghai. Last year, a gas explosion in the city of Shiyan killed at least 25 people and caused extensive damage to local buildings.

- 30 Ton Hebel Transport Truck Collided with Road Barrier-Overturned in Tabanan
Tabanan – A truck loaded with 30 tons of Hebel or lightweight bricks had a single accident on the Denpasar-Gilimanuk route, Yeh Bakung Banjar, Lalanglinggah Village, Selemadeg Barat District, Tabanan, Bali on Monday (21 /11/2022).
The single accident, which occurred on the Yeh Bakung bridge at around 08.30 WITA, resulted in the truck with plate L 81071 KF overturning after hitting a road divider.
“From the driver’s account, the accident occurred due to the truck’s brakes suddenly not working or failing,” explained the Head of Public Relations of the Tabanan Police, Iptu Nyoman Subagia.
He said there were no casualties in this accident. The truck driver, known as Ponimin (57) from Probolinggo, East Java, only suffered minor injuries.
Likewise with the co-driver, Dedy Tri Buwono (28) from Situbondo, East Java. “The driver and the co-driver only suffered minor injuries. The co-driver had abrasions on the cheek and left leg,” added Subagia.
Initially, continued Subagia, the truck was traveling from Probolinggo to Denpasar by transporting around 30 tons of hebel or lightweight bricks.
However, upon entering the scene, the truck’s speed was out of control. Ponimin failed to control the speed of his truck due to the brake pedal not working.
The truck then hit a road divider and overturned. Some of the Hebel that was being transported by the truck scattered and broke.
“The material losses cannot be ascertained. Currently, an evacuation is being carried out. For the time being, the traffic flow is regulated by an open and closed system to prevent the buildup of vehicles,” concluded Subagia.

BANYUWANGI, KOMPAS.com – After experiencing a fire incident, on Wednesday (16/11/2022), KMP Mutiara Timur I was declared sunk.
The sinking of the ship bound for Banyuwangi to Lombok brought approximately 115 passenger vehicles to the seabed.
According to Danlanal Banyuwangi Marine Lt. Col. (P) Ansori, KMP Mutiara Timur I sank at the point of the fire location at 15.45 WITA.
It was explained that the coordinate points for the sinking of KMP Mutiara Timur I were at 08⁰ 20′ 24″ S and 115⁰ 41′ 42″ E.
“It sank around the location of the fire. At 16.45 WITA it was declared drowned,” said Ansori, Friday (18/11/2022 ).
In contrast to Lanal, the Padangbai Port Authority and Harbor Authority (KSOP) stated that Mutiara Timur I had sunk not where it started burning, but was already in the Lombok Strait.
This was because the ship’s engine was turned off shortly after the fire occurred. Until finally the ship was swayed by the currents into the Lombok Strait.
“As for the exact cause of why it sank, I don’t know, but what is clear is that it had sunk this afternoon,” said the Head of KSOP Padangbai Ni Luh Putu Eka Suyasmin.
Meanwhile, preliminary data from the KSOP of Tanjungwangi Port, KM Mutiara Timur I departed from Tanjungwangi Port to Gili Mas carrying 236 passengers and 115 vehicles. Among them were 68 large trucks, 27 trucks, 16 small trucks, 2 sedans and MPVs, and 2 motorbikes on board.
However, until now there has been no statement, either from the Indonesian Navy, Padangbai Bali port authority, or Tanjungwangi port authority, Banyuwangi regarding the evacuation of passenger vehicles.
Only the evacuation process for 236 passengers, which was later revised to 237 passengers and 25 crew members.
Therefore the 115 vehicles transported by KMP Mutiara Timur I also sank to the bottom of the Bali sea.

- Plane crashes into a fire truck during takeoff, the airline: doesn’t ask
LIMA, KOMPAS.com – A plane crashes into a fire truck during takeoff at Peru’s busiest airport, resulting in the death of two of its officers.
The Latam Airlines plane reportedly hit a fire truck at 15:30 local time on Friday (18/11/2022) or 03.30 WIB Saturday (19/11/2022) at Jorge Chávez International Airport in the capital, Lima as reported by the BBC.
Video posts circulating on social media show the plane taxiing down the tarmac with sparks below it.
Black smoke then enveloped the fuselage as it stopped. “No passengers or crew members died,” the airline said on Twitter.
However, the Executive Director of the EsSalud Hospital Institution reported a 31-year-old firefighter was in critical condition.
Peru’s Ministry of Health added that 20 passengers were being treated for injuries – two of which were believed to be serious.
It remains unclear why the fire truck entered the runway as the plane was bound for the city of Juliaca in southern Peru.
During a press conference, Latam CEO Manuel Van Oordt said the flight had been cleared to take off. “We don’t know why (the fire truck) was there,” he said. “We didn’t ask for their services.”
The prosecutor’s office said it was investigating the incident as a potential homicide, according to Reuters news agency.
Lima Airport Partners (LAP), which operates Jorge Chavez Airport, has suspended flights until Saturday (19/11/2022) afternoon at the airport.
International flights that were supposed to land there have been diverted to Colombia, Panama, and various Peruvian cities including Iquitos, Pisco, and Arequipa.

- Village Connection Bridge in Tasikmalaya Collapses, 1 Motorcyclist Disappears, 2 Survivors
TASIKMALAYA, KOMPAS.com – The bridge on the village road that connects Cibalong and Parung Villages in Cibalong District, Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java, collapsed due to landslides, Monday (14 /11/2022) night.
3 The motorbike carrying 3 men while crossing the bridge fell into the river below. 2 victims on behalf of Ripa Ramdani (15) and Yayan (40) were found safe even though they were buried in an avalanche after the Tasikmalaya BPBD Team, Bandung SAR and Police and TNI officers were assisted by residents conducting a search.
Meanwhile, another motorcyclist, Eli (38), a resident of Cibalong District, Tasikmalaya Regency, was still not found after the joint team combed the river for about 100 meters at the incident location until Tuesday (15/11/2022) morning.
Until this morning, the joint rescue team was still looking for the missing victims who were allegedly buried in the landslide at the scene which had been temporarily stopped due to lighting problems.
“This morning the team is again searching for victims who have not been found. Early this morning, the search was stopped due to problems with lighting. The
location was dark and the river current was still strong,” said Aam Muharam, a Preparedness Analyst for BPBD Tasikmalaya Regency in the location of incident, Tuesday (15/11/2022) morning.
Aam said the incident began when heavy rain had been incessant since the afternoon hitting the scene and its surroundings.
According to the testimony of witnesses from local residents, continued Aam, each of the victims rode 3 motorbikes that were traveling simultaneously across the collapsed bridge. The three of them also collapsed when the bridge was eroded by a landslide on the bank of the river due to the very strong currents of water underneath.
Residents also had time to do first aid, but the strong currents of water made it difficult to evacuate victims.
“Finally the BPBD, Basarnas, Police, and TNI teams arrived at the scene after receiving reports from local residents.
When we searched, we only found 2 survivors even though they were buried in a landslide. Meanwhile, another victim has not been found until this morning,” he added. Meanwhile, Bandung Basarnas Officer, Bagus, admitted that his party had difficulty finding victims at night due to the swift currents of the river and the lack of lighting.
However, his party has also continued the search for the missing victims this morning by continuing along the river and landslides. “If there was light last night, we will stop for a while. We will continue starting this morning,” he concluded.
