Work Accidents of Paving Project Workers in Ponorogo. Brakes Fail, Worker Suffers Serious Injuries and Enters ICU
A worker on an asphalting project heading to the Ngebel Lake tourist attraction, Ponorogo, suffered a serious work accident. The victim named Sadi, a resident of Jombang Regency, is currently undergoing intensive treatment in the ICU at the Regional General Hospital (RSUD) dr. Harjono.
The accident occurred on Saturday evening, December 16 2023, in Dukuh Bentis, Wagir Lor Village, Ngebel District, Ponorogo Regency. At that time, Sadi was controlling a heavy TR type paving machine, which was experiencing a brake failure problem.
In an effort to avoid falling into a ravine due to the sharp decline in road conditions, Sadi chose to keep the vehicle to the left of the road. Even though he managed to jump out before the vehicle hit, Sadi suffered serious injuries, including nose bleeds, cracks to his right and left jaw, and a crack to his forehead with a clot in the back of his brain.
Ngebel Police Chief, Inspector Tutut Ariyanto, explained that the declining road conditions and failed brakes caused the incident. The victim was immediately rushed to RSUD dr. Harjono Ponorogo for further treatment. Even though the asphalting project has temporarily stopped, the project has not been completely evacuated because heavy equipment is still in the ditch.
This accident is a reminder of the importance of work safety in the construction environment and the need for further preventive measures to avoid similar accidents in the future.
