In this article, we have collected seven accident news stories that will deepen our understanding of the importance of safety in everyday life.

Let’s stay alert and take care of ourselves and those closest to us.

Tragic Group Bus Accident on Semarang-Batang Toll Road: Two Dead, 14 Injured

The fatal accident between a group bus carrying school students and a truck on the Semarang-Batang KM 352 toll road, Juragan Village, Kandeman District, Batang Regency, has claimed lives and injured several passengers. Two people died in the accident, namely the microbus driver Singgih Gusyantoro (34 years) and the reserve driver Feri (46 years), while 14 other passengers suffered injuries and were rushed to the nearest hospital.

“The accident allegedly occurred because the bus driver was sleepy,” said Head of the Batang Police Traffic Unit, AKP Wigiyadi, on Monday, April 29 2024.

The two dead victims came from Kemayoran and Bekasi. According to Wigiyadi, the victim was trapped in the front of the bus which was badly damaged, making the rescue process quite difficult for officers.

The tragic incident began when the microbus of a group of students from SMA Perjuangan Terpadu, Depok, was moving from East (Semarang) to West (Batang) via the left lane. However, when crossing a straight and flat road, the driver allegedly became sleepy and lost concentration.

Along with that, a truck that was on the same route was in front of the microbus. With the distance too close, the bus driver was unable to control his vehicle so it hit the back of the truck.

“A total of 14 passengers were injured, and two passengers survived the accident,” he added.

Due to this incident, Wigiyadi stated that there was a violation of Article 310 paragraph (4) and Article 310 paragraph (2) of Republic of Indonesia Law no. 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation.

“After evacuating passengers and vehicles, officers will carry out further examinations to reveal the exact cause of the accident,” he said.

Earthquake in Garut Increases Losses: 110 Houses Affected

A tragic incident occurred on the Pantura Patebon Kendal Route on Monday (22/4/2024) evening at around 18:30 WIB, when a truck loaded with packages of goods had an accident. As a result, hundreds of packages of industrial goods were strewn across the road, causing significant traffic disruption.

The truck and its cargo were only successfully evacuated on Tuesday (23/4/2024) afternoon at around 11:20 WIB after intensive efforts by Kendal Police officers.

Police officers, assisted by tow trucks and dump trucks, worked hard to lift the cargo packages scattered on the road one by one. The alternative route at Brangsong Kendal is used to divert traffic from the Semarang – Kendal and Jakarta – Kendal directions.

According to the Head of the Kendal Police Gakkum Unit, Ipda M Heru Ardiantoro, weather conditions at night were one of the main factors that hampered the process of evacuating trucks and their cargo on the night of the incident.

The chronology of the accident began when the truck’s left rear inner tire burst while crossing the Kendal Pantura Route. A broken rear axle due to a burst tire was the main cause of the accident.

“Currently, the truck driver is still being questioned at the Kendal Police Headquarters,” said Inspector Heru.

The truck driven by Alan was carrying a package of goods from Jakarta to Bali. Even though most of the cargo packages have been evacuated, motorists from Jakarta are still asked to be careful because some packages are still scattered on the left side of the road.

Until 12:00 WIB, traffic at Pantura Patebon Kendal gradually smoothed out after the evacuation process was complete. It is hoped that further mitigation and investigation efforts can avoid similar accidents in the future.

Fire Hits Tanah Merah, South Papua: 7 Kiosks, 1 Minibus and 11 Motorcycles Burned

Tanah Merah, an area in Boven Digoel Regency, South Papua, was hit by a severe fire at 10.30 WIT. This fire caused seven kiosks, one minibus and eleven motorbikes to burn to the ground. The fire which spread quickly was thought to have come from an electrical short circuit in one of the kiosks.

Basic food kiosks and cell phone counters were the main targets of the fire. The kiosk owner and local residents struggled to extinguish the fire with minimal equipment. However, the kiosk building was made of wood and strong winds meant that the fire easily spread to other kiosks.

Although the exact cause of the fire is not yet known, preliminary estimates indicate that an electrical short circuit in one of the kiosks was the main trigger for the fire. Efforts to extinguish the fire were carried out immediately after the fire engine belonging to the Boven Digoel Regency Satpol PP together with a tanker from the residents arrived at the scene.

Luckily, there were no casualties in this tragic incident. However, material losses are estimated at more than IDR 1 billion. This incident is a reminder of the importance of safety awareness and fire prevention, especially in a business environment that is prone to these types of incidents.

Truck Accident on Jalan Siliwangi, Sukabumi: One Dead, Five Injured

A deadly accident rocked Jalan Siliwangi, Palabuhanratu District, Sukabumi Regency, West Java, on Tuesday (30/4/2024). The Hino Blind truck with plate number B 9750 UXT driven by Sugianto was the perpetrator of the accident which claimed one life and injured five other people.

According to the Kasatlantas Sukabumi Police, AKP Fiekry Adi Perdana, the accident occurred when the truck was driving from Palabuhanratu towards Citepus. It is suspected that the truck driver lost consciousness for a moment or became sleepy, causing the truck to veer to the left of the road. The collision was inevitable when the truck hit the back of the Isuzu F 8677 VC pickup which was parked on the side of the road. The pickup was driven by Asep and carrying passenger Eki Lesmana.

“Because the distance was too close, the accident could not be avoided. The truck hit the pickup and dragged it, taking away several victims who were putting up billboards, including Rafli, Reki Zaenal, Raihan Maulana and Cepi,” said Fiekry.

All the victims were immediately evacuated to hospital, but tragically, one person named Cepi suffered serious head injuries and died while receiving medical treatment. This accident is a reminder of the importance of awareness and vigilance on the road, as well as the need for preventive measures to prevent similar accidents from occurring in the future.

Tragedy of Three Crew Members Died Trapped in Ship Tank: Allegedly Due to Poisonous Gas

The Jakarta SAR Office (Basarnas) has revealed the cause of the tragic deaths of three Sakata Maju Tugboat (TB) crew members, who were found dead trapped in the ship’s tank on Sunday (28/4/2024) evening. According to reports, the three victims allegedly died after being exposed to poisonous gas in the ship’s tank.

Head of the Jakarta SAR Office, Desiana Kartika Bahari, explained that initially his party received reports about crew members who died on the ship. “The three crew members initially cleaned the water tank main hole and painted it at around 10.30 WIB, Sunday morning,” said Desiana.

Desiana said that one of the crew members was first found unconscious in the tank. Then, two other crew members tried to help by getting into the tank. However, unfortunately, the three of them also fainted and were trapped in the tank’s main hole.

Basarnas Jakarta personnel immediately went to the location of the incident to carry out the evacuation process for the victims. They are equipped with Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) equipment to anticipate toxic gases in the room.

“Because we predict there is poisonous gas in the room,” he added.

The evacuation process was carried out using a lifting system, and the bodies of the three victims were successfully removed at around 22.52 WIB that night. They were then taken using RIB 03 Jakarta to Marunda Harbor, and then evacuated by ambulance to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital.

The three crew members who died were named Wibi Santoso Pratama (26), Tegar Saputra Sandyardi (27), and Mohammad Jainudin (54).

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of toxic gas in ship work environments, as well as the importance of implementing strict safety protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.
