Bus and Train Accident in East Ogan Komering Ulu Kills Four People
A tragedy befell the journey of the Putra Sulung Bus BE 7037 FU and the Rajabasa Train (KA) to Kertapati, South Sumatra (Sumsel). The accident occurred at the Km 193+7 crossing of Jalan Way Pisang – Martapura, East Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency, on Sunday (21/4/2024). This incident claimed lives and injuries, and highlighted compliance with traffic rules.
The bus is suspected of breaking through a self-supporting crossing, which is guarded by local residents and installed manually by PT KAI. At the same time, the Rajabasa train was traveling from Lampung towards Kertapati. Even though the driver had given a signal by sounding the slogan 35, the bus driver did not heed it so an accident was inevitable.
“There were four bus passengers who died and 15 others were injured,” said Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Divre IV Tanjung Karang, Azhar Zaki Assjari.
This incident has raised the issue of safety at level crossings again. Budiyanto, an observer of transportation and legal issues, stated that accidents at train crossings still occur frequently. To prevent this, Budiyanto emphasized the importance of complying with traffic rules.
“Road users must not immediately cut or cross, but must stop for a moment to pay attention to the conditions around them,” said Budiyanto. This rule is also regulated in Article 114 of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation (LLAJ).
Apart from that, violators of these rules will be subject to sanctions in accordance with Article 296 of the same Law, in the form of imprisonment for a maximum of 3 months or a fine of IDR 750,000. This regulation is also strengthened by guidelines regarding how to traffic at level crossings which are regulated in the Regulation of the Director General of Land Transportation.
To prevent similar incidents in the future, Budiyanto suggested several mitigation efforts, including building flyovers or underpasses, closing illegal crossings, installing STOP signals and signs, as well as conducting outreach to the public about regulations relating to railways. Budiyanto also emphasized the importance of a comprehensive investigation so as not only to blame the driver of the vehicle that was hit, but also to pay attention to the rights and obligations of road users and other stakeholders.

Truck Accident on the Pantura Kendal Route: Hundreds of Goods Packages Scattered on the Road
A tragic incident occurred on the Pantura Patebon Kendal Route on Monday (22/4/2024) evening at around 18:30 WIB, when a truck loaded with packages of goods had an accident. As a result, hundreds of packages of industrial goods were strewn across the road, causing significant traffic disruption.
The truck and its cargo were only successfully evacuated on Tuesday (23/4/2024) afternoon at around 11:20 WIB after intensive efforts by Kendal Police officers.
Police officers, assisted by tow trucks and dump trucks, worked hard to lift the cargo packages scattered on the road one by one. The alternative route at Brangsong Kendal is used to divert traffic from the Semarang – Kendal and Jakarta – Kendal directions.
According to the Head of the Kendal Police Gakkum Unit, Ipda M Heru Ardiantoro, weather conditions at night were one of the main factors that hampered the process of evacuating trucks and their cargo on the night of the incident.
The chronology of the accident began when the truck’s left rear inner tire burst while crossing the Kendal Pantura Route. A broken rear axle due to a burst tire was the main cause of the accident.
“Currently, the truck driver is still being questioned at the Kendal Police Headquarters,” said Inspector Heru.
The truck driven by Alan was carrying a package of goods from Jakarta to Bali. Even though most of the cargo packages have been evacuated, motorists from Jakarta are still asked to be careful because some packages are still scattered on the left side of the road.
Until 12:00 WIB, traffic at Pantura Patebon Kendal gradually smoothed out after the evacuation process was complete. It is hoped that further mitigation and investigation efforts can avoid similar accidents in the future.

Fishing Boat Collisions with Tanker Ship in Indramayu Waters
A traditional boat used by a fisherman collided with a tanker in Indramayu waters some time ago. Although the fishermen managed to survive, this incident caused damage to their boat.
The incident occurred when the boat owned by Ro’i, a resident of Cemara Village, Cantigi District, Indramayu Regency, was sailing to fish in Indramayu waters. Unexpectedly, their boat collided with a tanker called Corpus Marine 1.
The unbalanced collision resulted in Ro’i’s boat being damaged and almost sinking. However, fortunately, not far from the location of the incident there was another fishing boat which was also sailing looking for fish. With the help of the boat, Ro’i’s boat was pulled safely to land.
After this incident, Ro’i decided to sue the tanker agent Corpus Marine 1 to be responsible for the damage to his boat. However, despite following the established process, his demands did not produce results.
Annoyed by the ship agent’s attitude, Ro’i finally reported his case to the Regent of Indramayu, Nina Agustina.
After hearing reports from residents, Nina immediately took steps by contacting a number of related parties to resolve the maritime accident incident. Finally, after direct intervention from the Regent, the issue of compensation for the damage to Ro’i’s boat was resolved, and the incident ended peacefully.
On Saturday, April 20 2024, Ro’i met directly with the Corpus Marine 1 agent in a meeting facilitated by the Fisheries and Maritime Service, Indramayu Police Polairud, and Indramayu UPP Harbormaster.
The Regent of Indramayu, Nina Agustina, hopes that there will be no more maritime accidents in her area. He also reminded all parties who use the sea to always maintain safety, both daily fishermen and other sea users such as tankers. By maintaining mutual safety, it is hoped that maritime accidents can be prevented in the future.

PT Kahatex Rancaekek worker dies due to work accident while carrying out IPAL maintenance
The work accident that befell five workers at PT Kahatex, Rancaekek, Bandung Regency, has highlighted the shortcomings in Occupational Safety and Health (K3) guarantees in Indonesia, especially in West Java. One of the worker victims died after carrying out maintenance on the Waste Water Treatment Plant (IPAL), Saturday, April 13 2024.
The People’s Alliance Concerned with Occupational Safety and Health suspects that the accident occurred due to neglect of K3 procedures, a lack of personal protective equipment appropriate to the risks of the job, and the company’s negligence in providing workers with sufficient knowledge to protect their safety.
The K3 Concerned People’s Alliance also linked this incident to a similar incident at the Cirebon Super Blok Mall on April 9 2024, which caused four workers to die due to poisonous gas while carrying out septic tank maintenance. Apart from that, a similar incident in Meikarta, Bekasi, three months earlier, also caused two workers to die while repairing a wastewater channel.
Based on the BPJS Employment annual report, national work accident data has continued to increase in the last three years. This data shows that there is a need for greater attention and priority towards the implementation of K3 in the workplace in Indonesia.
Acting West Java Regional Secretary, Taufiq Budi Santoso, appealed to all companies in West Java to strictly implement the K3 system.
“With a strong K3 culture, we can reduce the number of work accidents and work-related diseases,” said Taufiq.
This incident emphasizes the importance of monitoring and enforcing strict K3 standards in the workplace to protect the safety and health of workers. Preventive and responsive measures need to be strengthened to prevent similar accidents in the future.
