A ship captain named Supeno died in a fire incident involving the fishing vessel KM Surya Produk Laut-22 in the waters of Pulau Dua, Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands. Supeno died while trying to save the crew by firing a flare as a call for help. This action succeeded in saving six crew members who were then evacuated by another ship that saw the signal for help. This incident began when KM Surya Produk Laut-22 was on its way from Malaysia to the port of Pangkalbalam on Thursday (21/3/2024), carrying fish catches. However, on the way, an explosion occurred in the ship’s fuel tank which caused a fire.
Supeno immediately made a call for help by firing flares as the ship caught fire. This signal was seen by the KM Satria Jaya Baru 1 ship, which then rescued six crew members who had jumped overboard. Meanwhile, Supeno and another crew member named Richo were still trying to open the Life Raft on the ship. However, another explosion occurred which caused Supeno to die and one other crew member allegedly fell and disappeared around the scene.
The KM Satria Jaya Baru 1 ship, which received a signal for help, managed to save the six crew members. Supeno and the six crew members who were rescued were evacuated to KM Satria Jaya Baru 1. Efforts to search for the missing crew members were carried out, but as of 21.00 WIB, the victims had not been found. Three houses in Cianjur were destroyed by fire after residents slept while cooking to break the fast
Three house units in Sayangheulang Village, Bojongherang Village, Cianjur District, Cianjur Regency, were burnt down. The fire is thought to have occurred due to a fire from an unattended stove when the homeowner fell asleep while cooking to break the fast.
This incident reportedly occurred on Monday (25/3/2024). According to the information gathered, the fire point was first seen coming from a semi-permanent house owned by Yeti Suryati.
Due to the flammability of house building materials, the fire quickly spread and grew. In fact, the fire also managed to infect two other houses nearby in a densely populated area.
“According to witness testimony, the fire initially started at Mrs. Yeti’s house. After that, the fire spread to two other houses. So a total of three houses were affected by the fire,” said Reki, a Cianjur firefighter, as reported by detikJabar.
Reki added, from the results of the investigation, it was discovered that the fire came from a fireplace that was not supervised by the home owner. This caused the fire to spread throughout the house.
“The homeowners were cooking on the stove to break the fast. However, during the cooking process, they fell asleep. As a result, the fire spread quickly. Material losses caused by the fire are estimated at hundreds of millions of rupiah,” he explained.
