Container Truck Consecutive Collisions at Railway Crossings: Driver Pinned Down

In the early hours of Sunday (24/3), there were a series of accidents at the railway crossing on Jalan Raya, Baron Village, Baron District, Nganjuk Regency. This incident involved a container truck rear-ending another truck waiting in line, allegedly because the driver was sleepy.

Information from the Head of the Nganjuk Police Traffic Unit, AKP Ahmat Rochan, stated that the accident occurred at around 01:30 WIB. The truck driver who hit from behind did not pay attention to the vehicle in front of him which was stopped waiting for the train to pass. The first truck that was hit was a truck with plate number N-9481-UQ, then a series of collisions occurred because the truck in front of it also hit the truck in front of it.

The process of evacuating one of the truck drivers involved in the accident was tense, because the driver was trapped in the truck cabin. However, thanks to the efforts made, the driver survived with bruises on his legs. The victim was then taken to Kertosono Regional Hospital to receive further treatment, while the case was handled by the Nganjuk Police Gakkum Laka Then Unit.

Burning Ship in Tanjung Pinang Waters. Captain Dies After Saving Crew

A ship captain named Supeno died in a fire incident involving the fishing vessel KM Surya Produk Laut-22 in the waters of Pulau Dua, Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands. Supeno died while trying to save the crew by firing a flare as a call for help. This action succeeded in saving six crew members who were then evacuated by another ship that saw the signal for help. This incident began when KM Surya Produk Laut-22 was on its way from Malaysia to the port of Pangkalbalam on Thursday (21/3/2024), carrying fish catches. However, on the way, an explosion occurred in the ship’s fuel tank which caused a fire.

Supeno immediately made a call for help by firing flares as the ship caught fire. This signal was seen by the KM Satria Jaya Baru 1 ship, which then rescued six crew members who had jumped overboard. Meanwhile, Supeno and another crew member named Richo were still trying to open the Life Raft on the ship. However, another explosion occurred which caused Supeno to die and one other crew member allegedly fell and disappeared around the scene.

The KM Satria Jaya Baru 1 ship, which received a signal for help, managed to save the six crew members. Supeno and the six crew members who were rescued were evacuated to KM Satria Jaya Baru 1. Efforts to search for the missing crew members were carried out, but as of 21.00 WIB, the victims had not been found. Information about the incident was reported to the Pangkalpinang Search and Rescue Office, which then sent a rescue team to the scene.

The Joint SAR Team searched for victims who were suspected of being missing using the Parallel Search Pattern method, assisted by other ships. Bad weather with large waves hampered the search process. Hopefully the search efforts will soon produce positive results.

Fire Attacks House and 11 Boarding Rooms in Jayapura, One Death

A fire destroyed a house and 11 boarding rooms in Jayapura City, Papua, causing one person named Sutrisno (50) to die.

“The fire destroyed the house owned by Fredi Simanjuntak and 11 boarding houses owned by Ahmad Kamal and resulted in the death of a middle-aged man,” said Jayapura City Police Chief Commissioner Victor D. Mackbon in his statement on Sunday (24/3/2024).

The fire incident occurred at the Hamadi T-junction, South Jayapura District, on Saturday (23/3). The victim who died was a cilok trader.

According to Victor, the fire allegedly came from the room owned by the victim Sutrisno. This information was obtained from investigations carried out based on the statements of a number of witnesses.

“At first, a witness named Sunarman heard the victim’s screams, then came out of his house and saw a fire in front of the victim’s boarding house. Then the witness tried to call the victim but didn’t get a response, so he asked for help from local residents,” he explained.

The fire quickly spread and burned other buildings because most of the building materials were made of wood, even though residents tried to put it out.

“The fire was successfully extinguished about an hour and a half later with the help of a fire engine from the Jayapura City Government, AWC Jayapura City Police. Joint officers also immediately evacuated the victim’s body from the scene,” he added.

“We have carried out a crime scene investigation, and together with the Papua Police Bid Labfor, we will try to uncover the cause of the fire which caused this loss of life,” he concluded.

A woman named Lady (29) became the victim of a robbery by breaking a car window while having dinner in the Grand Galaxy area, South Bekasi, Bekasi City. Lady’s partner, Mayang (29), revealed that at that time the two of them were enjoying dinner at a Middle Eastern restaurant from 18.50 to 20.05 WIB on Friday (22/3/2024). “After we finished eating, we were shocked to see that the car window on our right was broken and the things in the car had disappeared because it was stolen,” said Mayang when contacted on Monday (25/3/2024). He added that the robbers took away a backpack containing a Lenovo Thinkpad office laptop, an original car BPKB, an Indomaret voucher worth IDR 1,000,000, and several other items.

“It is very unfortunate that there are no security officers or surveillance cameras (CCTV) in the restaurant,” complained Mayang. “We feel disappointed and at a loss because there is no security system from the restaurant.” Mayang said that after the incident went viral on social media, the restaurant promised to compensate Lady for the losses. “After yesterday’s viral incident, the restaurant has contacted my colleague who was the victim of a robbery and is willing to help in compensating for material losses,” he said. He also explained that he and Lady had reported the robbery incident to the South Bekasi Police. “We have submitted a report to the authorities,” he added. South Bekasi Police Chief, Kompol Untung, confirmed the report from the victim. “We are trying to uncover the robbery case involving breaking glass, especially the perpetrator who is still on the wanted list by the bus team,” he said. Untung also revealed that in the report, the victim noted the loss of a laptop unit and the car’s BPKB. Currently, the police have put up warning banners in various locations to remind Bekasi residents to be more alert. “We put up warning banners, provided education to parking attendants, and carried out joint patrols with security officers at Galaxy,” he stressed.

Three houses in Cianjur were destroyed by fire after residents slept while cooking to break the fast

Three house units in Sayangheulang Village, Bojongherang Village, Cianjur District, Cianjur Regency, were burnt down. The fire is thought to have occurred due to a fire from an unattended stove when the homeowner fell asleep while cooking to break the fast.

This incident reportedly occurred on Monday (25/3/2024). According to the information gathered, the fire point was first seen coming from a semi-permanent house owned by Yeti Suryati.

Due to the flammability of house building materials, the fire quickly spread and grew. In fact, the fire also managed to infect two other houses nearby in a densely populated area.

“According to witness testimony, the fire initially started at Mrs. Yeti’s house. After that, the fire spread to two other houses. So a total of three houses were affected by the fire,” said Reki, a Cianjur firefighter, as reported by detikJabar.

Reki added, from the results of the investigation, it was discovered that the fire came from a fireplace that was not supervised by the home owner. This caused the fire to spread throughout the house.

“The homeowners were cooking on the stove to break the fast. However, during the cooking process, they fell asleep. As a result, the fire spread quickly. Material losses caused by the fire are estimated at hundreds of millions of rupiah,” he explained.
