Fire Hits MM Dunda Limboto Regional Hospital, Losses Estimated at IDR 100 Billion

Four rooms in three buildings at the MM Dunda Limboto Regional General Hospital (RSUD), Gorontalo Regency, Gorontalo Province, suffered serious damage due to fire. The fire is thought to have been caused by a short circuit or electrical short circuit.

“The initial suspicion is that a short circuit was the cause of this fire,” said Alaludin Lapananda, Director of MM Dunda Regional Hospital, when interviewed by detikcom on Monday (11/3/2024).

According to Alaludin, information about the fire was first received via the RSUD WhatsApp group. As soon as they received the report, their party immediately coordinated with the Gorontalo Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the fire brigade team to extinguish the fire.

Apart from that, a number of patients were also evacuated to safe places. Alaludin emphasized that the fire did not occur in the patient’s inpatient room.

“The number of patients evacuated cannot be ascertained. Several patients have been evacuated to a safe place in the yard, all of which are related to hospitalization. Currently, the patients have been moved back indoors,” he said.

Alaludin also said that the estimated losses due to the fire reached around IDR 100 billion. However, it is claimed that hospital services are running normally and are not affected, because the rooms affected by the fire are not directly related to patient services.

“We estimate that losses due to the fire reached IDR 100 billion. The details cannot be ascertained, but this figure includes damage to the building. However, services at the hospital are running as usual, especially because the rooms affected by the fire have no connection with direct services to patients ,” he added.
