Cause of Fire

The Kesyahbandaran and Port Authority Office (KSOP) investigated the KM Bukit Siguntang fire at Parepare Port, South Sulawesi (Sulsel). The investigation showed that the passenger ship caught fire due to an electric short circuit.

Gorontalo Shoes Warehouse Fire Extinguishes After 34 Hours, Now It’s Cooling Process

The fire in the shoes and sandals warehouse in Gorontalo City was finally extinguished after going through a 34-hour process. Firefighters (damkar) are currently doing cooling.

“We spent almost 34 hours putting out the fire in this warehouse. If you count the day and night, it’s more or less like that,” said Gorontalo City Fire Department (Damkar) Field Coordinator Muhamad Luhtfei to detik.com on Saturday (17/6/2023).

The incident occurred at Jalan Tengku Umar, Limba B Village, Kota Selatan District, Gorontalo, on Friday (16/6) at around 00.50 WITA.

“Currently, on the second day this morning at 10.00 WITA, the condition is already (in the category) yellow, meaning that the possibility of the fire spreading outside is gone. Now we are carrying out the cooling process,” explained Muhamad.

Muhamad stated that officers had difficulty putting out the fire because access to the hotspots was limited. In addition, they also need more water supply.

“The main difficulty is access to the location of the fire, so we have difficulty putting out the fire and also difficulties with limited water resources,” he said.

The material burned in the warehouse plastic also made it difficult to extinguish the fire. This caused some officers to feel overwhelmed.

“Because the type of material that burns is plastic, the heat generated is very high,” he explained.

Muhamad said that several firefighters were reportedly injured while putting out the fire. Some of them also experienced fatigue because they had difficulty breathing.

“As a result of this fire, most of the members of the fire team suffered injuries to their feet and hands,” Muhamad added.

It was previously reported that police were investigating the fire. Provisional estimates state that an electrical short circuit caused this incident.

“It is still suspected that an electric short circuit caused the fire,” said the Head of Ops for the Gorontalo Police, Kompol Suharjo, on Friday (16/6).

The sub-district head of Kota Selatan, Gorontalo, Sumariyadi Tone, revealed that 5 residents’ houses were also burnt when the shoe and sandal warehouse fire occurred. Sumariyadi confirmed that there were no casualties in the fire.

“It was recorded that 5 houses and 1 warehouse (shoes and sandals), a total of 6 were burned. So, overall there are 36 people from 10 heads of families,” explained Sumariyadi.

Arfak Mountains – One prisoner named Tomus Tuhumori died in an accident that occurred in a prisoner’s car belonging to Class II B Lapas South Manokwari, West Papua. The accident occurred in the Arfak Mountains due to a failed brake.

Initially, a Hilux-type detainee car with three people, a driver, a prison employee, and an inmate, was heading for South Manokwari from the Arfak Mountains on Sunday (18/6) at around 08.00 WIT. They had previously attended a camping activity at Kobrey Peak.

While on the way home to Manokwari, the car driven by Luis Julianus Sabandafa suddenly experienced brake failure, making it impossible to control. The car then plunged into a ravine while descending into the Arfak Mountains region before a turn.

“One prisoner named Tomus Tuhumori died,” Kompol Isaac told detikcom, Monday (19/6/2023).

Isaac has not provided exact details regarding the injuries caused by the impact the victim experienced. However, he suspects the effect was the leading cause of Tomus’ death.

“The victim was suspected of panicking because the car’s brakes failed and fell into a ravine. So, the victim jumped and hit. Regarding the collision that occurred, we don’t know for sure. It’s likely because it just hit,” he said.

Meanwhile, the driver and prison officer who remained in the car only suffered minor injuries. Both were then taken to the Ransiki Public Health Center, Manokwari. Meanwhile, the victim will be evacuated to the Manokwari public hospital.

“Two other people, namely the driver Luis Julian Sabandafa and a passenger (Prison employee) named Teguh Prayadi, suffered minor injuries,” he added.

Furthermore, Isaac emphasized that his party had coordinated with the South Manokwari Police to investigate the cause of the accident. They have also made a police report (LP).

“The Arfak Mountains Police have coordinated with the South Manokwari Police to make a police report,” he concluded.
