A Bus Carrying 20 Passengers Failed to Brake, Resulting in a Series of Accidents in South Sulawesi

A tragic story occurred in Barru Regency, South Sulawesi, when a bus carrying around 20 passengers, a box car and a dump truck were involved in a series of accidents. This horrific incident left the boxcar driver injured, reminding us of the importance of safety on the road.

This terrible incident occurred in Ballewe Village, Binuang Village, Barru, on Saturday, October 28. It all started when a truck, which was on its way from Makassar to Parepare, made a risky U-turn maneuver. The truck, with its striking length, rocked back and forth in an attempt to turn around. This situation attracts the attention of other drivers on the road.

Then, a box car and a motorbike rider who were coming from the direction of Parepare, decided to stop and make way for the process of turning the truck around. They take actions that should be safe and responsible. However, while they were waiting, a bus approached from behind with high speed and a lack of attention to the road situation. When the situation is urgent, the bus driver tries to avoid the motorcyclist by maneuvering to the right.

When maneuvering, this bus could not avoid colliding with box cars and trucks that were turning around. This horrific collision caused serious damage to all three vehicles. Despite the horrific circumstances, the good news is that there were no fatalities in this incident. The passengers on the bus, around 20 people, were lucky not to suffer serious injuries.

However, the boxcar driver was not so lucky. Although he survived the incident, he suffered injuries that required medical treatment. After receiving necessary treatment at the hospital, the driver was allowed to go home.

Head of the Barru Police Traffic Unit, AKP Malik, revealed that the bus driver admitted that the accident could not be avoided because he was too late in realizing the situation developing in front of him. As a result, braking efforts are less effective and sudden. As stated by AKP Malik, “He had time to brake, but he braked suddenly. The driver was speaking his language, the brakes didn’t really work.”

This incident should be a reminder to all of us about the importance of road safety. Accidents can happen anytime and anywhere, and can often be avoided by being careful, obeying traffic rules, and paying close attention while driving. While we are fortunate that there were no fatalities in this accident, this incident should remind us all of the importance of maintaining road safety and minimizing risks when driving. Hopefully all parties can learn from this incident and work to prevent similar accidents in the future. Safety is the shared responsibility of all of us.

Severe Fire at 2 Schools in Ende Regency, NTT, Suffering Losses of Up to IDR 2.6 Billion

Ende Regency was recently rocked by a tragic incident when two schools, SMP Negeri 1 and 2 Ende, experienced a fire on Thursday, 26 October 2023. Head of the Ende Regency Education and Culture Service, Mensy Tiwe, revealed that losses due to this fire were estimated at Rp. 2 .6 billion. In detail, SMP Negeri 1 Ende experienced a loss of around IDR 1.8 billion, while SMP Negeri 2 Ende experienced a loss of IDR 800 million.

According to Mensy Tiwe, the fire destroyed the library and two classrooms at SMP Negeri 1 Ende, while at SMP Negeri 2 Ende, one classroom, one warehouse and several girls’ toilets were victims. This is a major blow to education in the region.

Efforts to overcome this loss are not only carried out by the school, but also involve regional and central governments. Mensy Tiwe hopes that a quick response from all parties will enable this school to return to operation in the new academic year 2023/2024.

Mensy Tiwe has also brought this issue to the Ende DPRD to get joint attention between the legislature and the executive in formulating development plans in the education sector in 2024. It is hoped that support from the legislative body will help make the recovery of these schools a development priority in the education sector.

Apart from that, Mensy Tiwe has coordinated with the Library Service to ensure that students from SMP Negeri 1 Ende still have access to the library. He hopes that the library usage schedule can be arranged so that it does not overlap with the general public.

Even though this disaster has confronted them, Mensy Tiwe gave a strong message to the school and students. He hopes that they will not be lost in sadness, because many parties will help deal with this problem. The community, government and educators unite to ensure that the future of education in Ende Regency remains bright.

Marcopolo Ship Loaded with Coconuts and Hundreds of Boxes of Fresh Fish Capsizes After Hitting Corals in Sumenep Waters

Sumenep waters recently witnessed a surprising incident when the cargo ship KM Marcopolo experienced a serious accident. This ship was carrying valuable cargo in the form of coconuts and hundreds of boxes of fresh fish, however, fate said otherwise when the ship hit a reef in the waters of Sadulang Besar Island, Sapeken District, Sumenep.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, October 29 2023, when the ship was traveling from Pagerungan Kecil Island to Banyuwangi. The ship, which was on its way to carry this valuable cargo, suddenly hit a reef when passing through the strait between Sadulang Kecil Island and Sapeken Island, which is located south of Sadulang Besar. The collision caused the ship to capsize and its cargo to spill into the sea.

Authorized officers immediately responded to this incident. The ship’s captain and five other crew members, along with the ship’s cargo weighing around 10 tons, including coconuts and boxes of fresh fish, were successfully evacuated and secured to another ship that came to help.

According to the Head of Public Relations of the Sumenep Police, AKP Widiarti, “At around 00.00 WIB in the morning, the ship carrying goods departed from Pagerungan Kecil Island to go to Banyuwangi Regency.” However, this incident changed the course of the ship’s journey abruptly and dramatized the cruise experience.

This shipwreck is a reminder to us all of the vulnerabilities faced by ships carrying valuable cargo in dangerous waters. In addition, this also underlines the importance of safety in maritime shipping and vigilance in avoiding risks like this. Hopefully repairs and restoration can be carried out as quickly as possible, so that the KM Marcopolo ship and its cargo can return to normal condition and continue their journey.
