East Lombok – Flash floods in Loyok and Pesanggrahan Villages, Sikur District, East Lombok Regency, NTB, Monday (24/ 10/2022) at around 16.00 WITA, damaged two buildings belonging to the residents and the village government. The Head of Loyok Village, Muhammad Rosyidi, said the bridge was damaged. A shop owned by a resident in Otak Desa Hamlet, East Loyok Village, was swept away by the overflowing river.

“The rainfall was quite high and long at 14.00 WITA. Suddenly the flood overflowed into the residential area on the riverbank of Loyok Village,” said Rosyidi, Monday night (10/24/2022) via telephone.

According to Rosyidi, the flooding and landslides were caused by overflowing river water in the Dusun Joben, Pesanggrahan Village, Montong Gading District. The two rivers meet in Loyok Village, causing the water to overflow as high as 1.5 meters.

“The water is quite high, as high as an adult’s chest. But tonight (yesterday, Red), it has receded,” he said.

In addition to destroying two shop buildings, a patrol post belonging to residents and the local village government, a bridge unit connecting Loyok and Dasan Tinggi villages is tilted. Motorists cannot pass it due to overflowing water. “We are temporarily closed. We are afraid of collapsing. We will temporarily divert it,” said Rosyidi.

Separately, the Head of the Emergency and Logistics Division of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of East Lombok Regency, Iwan Setiawan, said that apart from damaging two buildings and a bridge in Loyok Village, a road barrier heading for Prau Banyar Joben, Pesanggrahan Village, was also damaged by the flood.

“So this embankment collapsed 10×10 meters because it could not hold water. We are still conducting assessments and monitoring the emergency level, especially the sloping bridge in Loyok,” said Iwan.

The East Lombok BPBD is still collecting data on people affected by flash floods in Loyok and Pesanggrahan villages. In addition, residents are asked to continue alert to the higher rainfall at the end of October 2022.

“We are still recording the loss. Thank God there is no information on casualties until tonight (yesterday, ed),” said Iwan.
