Tragedy at the Bontang Construction Project. Worker Killed by 200 Kg Iron Frame, Safety Standards Questioned

A tragic incident rocked the construction project on Jalan Urip Sumoharjo, South Bontang, on Saturday (9/11/2024) afternoon, when a young worker, with the initials AW (20), was crushed to death by a 200 kilogram iron frame. At the time of the incident, AW and five of his colleagues – HA, RS, R, and ARS – were erecting an iron conveyor frame under the management of a company owned by a businessman with the initials M.

According to information from the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit for Bontang Police, Inspector Hari Supranoto, the incident started when the iron frame being lifted accidentally came into contact with another iron structure. The two iron frames suddenly collapsed, hitting AW, while his colleagues managed to escape. Tragically, AW, who did not have time to escape, was found unconscious at the location and was declared dead by the medical team who came to the scene.

After the incident, the Bontang Police immediately carried out a crime scene investigation and examined several witnesses to determine the cause of this accident, which is currently categorized as a work accident. However, the police are still investigating the possibility of negligence behind this incident.

AW, a resident of Rawa Indah, Tanjung Laut Indah, South Bontang, was the victim of this incident, which once again highlights the importance of implementing strict safety standards in construction projects to prevent similar tragedies.

Work Accident Tragedy at PT LA Engineering, One Person Killed by Falling Crane

The Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) for Labor Inspectors from the Riau Islands Provincial Manpower Service (Disnaker Kepri) conducted a serious investigation into PT LA Engineering in Tanjunguncang, Batam. This step was taken after a fatal incident that killed Anwar Husein, a Bangladeshi citizen who worked as a supervisor at the company. This tragic incident occurred on Saturday (9/11), when Husein was crushed by a crane that had a technical error.

The Head of the Batam Regional Employment UPTD, Jefriyanto, explained that his party was carrying out a direct inspection at the scene of the incident. “We have received the report and are carrying out on-site inspections and guidance,” said Jefriyanto on Monday (11/11/2024). He said that his team was also collecting information from company management and witnesses to reveal detailed chronology of the accident.

This investigation also involves the Barelang Police Criminal Investigation Unit, with a police cordon at the accident site. Initial suspicions indicate that there was a technical error when the crane was operating, which caused the accident that befell the victim.

This tragic accident once again highlights the importance of implementing strict safety procedures in the industrial sector, especially in the construction sector. It is hoped that this investigation will shed light on the incident and encourage stronger prevention measures in the future.

Rattan Processing Warehouse Burns Massively in Cirebon! With the help of employees, the fire destroyed 300 square meters

A large fire hit a rattan management business in Tegal Wangi Village, Weru District, Cirebon Regency, on Monday (11/11/2024) evening. The fire that raged in the finishing area warehouse burned around 300 square meters of the total building area of 850 square meters.

The incident was first reported at around 17.20 WIB by the local Bhabinkamtibmas. Eno Sudjana, Head of Emergency Division for the Cirebon Regency Fire and Rescue Service (DPKP), said that the fire team immediately went to the location after receiving the report. “We received a fire report at 17.20 WIB and immediately sent a fire team to the scene two minutes later,” explained Eno.

When he arrived at the location at 17.30 WIB, the fire was already burning big in the eastern part of the warehouse. The fire is thought to have been triggered by an electrical short circuit which caused sparks to catch thinner or paint residue in the air ducts of the finishing area. Due to the large amount of flammable materials, the fire quickly spread to the building frame, which was mostly made of wood.

Even though the owner and employees tried to extinguish the fire using a light fire extinguisher (APAR), the fire continued to grow, so they asked for help from the fire team and the police. The extinguishing process took more than an hour and involved four fire engines and an additional water supply unit. This process lasts until 18.00 WIB, followed by a cooling process until 18.40 WIB.

Blackout is not easy because the road access to the location is quite narrow and is in a densely populated area. In addition, water sources around the location are very limited so water assistance from the Sumber Post and Palimanan Post was deployed to ensure the smooth running of the extinguishing process.

In this incident, there were no fatalities or injuries. However, material losses are still being calculated, and further investigations by the police are underway to determine the exact cause of the fire which destroyed most of the warehouse.

This incident claimed the lives of three victims, including an elderly woman and two children under ten years old. Tragedy of Successive Accidents on the Cipularang Km 9 Toll Road. One Dead, 27 Injured. It started with the truck experiencing brake failure

The fatal accident occurred at Km 92 of the Cipularang Toll Road towards Jakarta on Monday (11/11/2024) at around 15.15 WIB, involving a truck and 17 other vehicles. This accident resulted in one person dying, while 27 others were injured, including 4 people with serious injuries and 23 with minor injuries. Jasa Marga, represented by the Marketing and Communication Department Head of Jasa Marga Metropolitan Tollroad Regional Division, Panji Satriya, confirmed the incident and expressed his apologies for the inconvenience caused.

Panji revealed that this accident occurred after a cardboard truck traveling from Bandung experienced brake failure, causing it to lose control and crash into the vehicles in front of it. As a result, all lanes towards Jakarta were blocked, forcing traffic diversion via the Cikamuning Toll Gate (GT) at Km 116 and the Jatiluhur GT at Km 84.

All victims have been evacuated to several referral hospitals, including Abdul Radjak Hospital, Purwakarta. The Acting Governor of West Java, Bey Machmudin, who visited the victims early Tuesday morning (12/11/2024), stated that of the 28 victims of this accident, 21 people suffered minor injuries, 7 suffered serious injuries, and one person died. One victim who suffered a broken bone in his leg and several burn victims immediately received medical treatment, while trauma healing assistance was also provided for victims who experienced psychological impacts.

Realizing the dangers on the Cipularang toll road section, especially between Km 90 to Km 100 which is known to be prone to accidents due to declining road conditions, Bey said he would coordinate accident mitigation measures with the Ministry of Public Works and Jasa Marga to improve safety on this section. “We will work to ensure events like this do not happen again in the future,” Bey said.

Apart from coordinating with various parties, Panji emphasized the importance of motorists, especially truck drivers, to ensure that their vehicles are in prime condition before crossing this toll road, especially through regular vehicle fitness tests or KIR.

Fire at Nusantara Fishery Harbor, Pekalongan. 13 Ships Burned Out, Losing Billions of Rupiah

A major fire hit the Nusantara Fisheries Harbor (PPN) in Pekalongan City, Central Java, in the early hours of Tuesday (12/11/2024). A total of 13 ships that were docked were burnt down in an incident that shocked local residents and fishermen. The fire first appeared on the KM Nusantara ship, and soon grew rapidly, spreading to other ships in the vicinity.

Residents who saw thick smoke starting to rise from the ship tried to extinguish the fire, but the strength of the fire was very fast and strong gusts of wind made the situation worse. Firefighters also encountered difficulties, especially because of the suspected diesel content contained in the burning ship. Not only that, the presence of ships made of flammable materials also triggered the spread of fire.

The local police revealed that although six fire engines, plus assistance from the Pekalongan City Police and BPBD, had been dispatched to the location, the fire had not yet been completely extinguished. Pekalongan City Police Chief, AKBP Prayudha Widiatmoko, stated that the exact cause of the fire was still under investigation.

Although there were no casualties, this fire resulted in material losses estimated at billions of rupiah. Fishermen and ship owners who lost their main assets are still devastated by this incident. The local community hopes that extinguishing the fire will be completed soon to prevent wider damage, while the authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire.

This incident also serves as a reminder of the importance of safety at ports, especially in anticipating potential dangers involving flammable fuel and equipment.
