The Largest Gas Station in Subulussalam Burned Down, Allegedly Due to a Short Circuit in a Pickup Car
A large fire hit the Public Fuel Filling Station (SPBU) 14 237 452 owned by H Syafriadi Manik, or known as SPBU Oyon, in Subulussalam City on Thursday (10/10/2024). This shocking incident occurred at around 12.10 WIB and caused four fuel pump engines and one Suzuki Carry pickup to burn down.
According to local residents, this fire was a heavy blow for them. The reason is, Oyon gas station is one of only two gas stations in Subulussalam City. “Hopefully it will operate again soon. Otherwise, the queues at other gas stations will definitely get longer,” complained Herlina, a local resident. Now, only the Kasman Lizar gas station in Penanggalan serves the fuel needs of all city residents, so long queues are unavoidable.
The incident started when a Suzuki Carry car caught fire while filling up with fuel at the Oyon gas station. The fire which started from the front of the car quickly spread and burned down the fuel filling area. Suddenly, gas station officers and car drivers tried to extinguish the fire, but panic and jamming of extinguishers made the situation worse. The fire eventually reached the fuel tank, making the fire worse.
A firefighting team consisting of four firefighting vehicles and one Brimob water cannon unit was deployed to tame the red rooster. After fighting for almost an hour, the fire was finally extinguished at 13.05 WIB.
As a result of this fire, the Oyon gas station was temporarily closed and a police line was installed for further investigation. The cause of the fire is thought to have come from a short circuit in a pickup truck that was filling up with fuel. Police officers are currently still investigating in more depth the exact cause of the fire which has made it increasingly difficult for Subulussalam residents to access fuel.
Residents hope that the gas station owner and PT Pertamina will immediately take quick action to repair and re-operate the Oyon gas station. The reason is, the existence of this gas station is very vital for the fuel needs of the people and passersby in the city.
