Learn from a Deadly Accident in Hunan China Involving 49 Vehicles
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – A fatal accident involving 49 vehicles occurred in Wangcheng District, Hunan Province, China at around 17.00 local time, Saturday (4/2/2023).
This very fast event, is an accumulation of five accidents that took place in a span of 10 minutes. As a result, 16 people were reported dead and 66 others injured and have been taken to local hospitals.
Launching China Daily, Sunday (5/2/2023), now local officials are still conducting an investigation regarding this accident. But according to reports from residents, a burning truck was seen which eventually hit a number of cars in front.
“All of the 66 injured people have been admitted to hospital. Eight of them were seriously injured but remain in stable condition,” Changsha Traffic Police said.
As of Sunday, 5 February 2023, it was reported that 182 firefighters had been dispatched to the location for rescue operations and suppressed the negative impact of the incident.
Responding to this incident, Training Director of Safety Defensive Consultant Indonesia (SDCI) Sony Susmana reminded again of the importance of keeping emotions in check and always manage time management when driving.
Moreover, when there is a long holiday or certain momentum that is predicted there will be traffic congestion.
“Please note that China is one of the busiest countries with traffic recently. This is because they just relaxed restrictions on social activities after the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said when contacted by Kompas.com, Sunday (5/2/2023).
“So the mobility of the population is limited on the road. Of course, these conditions trigger accidents due to emotional, ego, fatigue and aggressive factors. So it’s like a time bomb leading to an accident if it’s not controlled (driving pattern),” continued Sony.
In an effort to prevent similar conditions from happening, he stated that it is better for motorists to manage their emotions and time, such as avoiding traffic jams by preparing a time and travel route.
“Then prepare the driver mentally and physically. That way, everything can be controlled properly,” said Sony.
Then don’t forget to always monitor traffic flow in real time so motorists can find alternative routes. If that’s not possible, it’s better to postpone the trip at a later date.

Today in History: Boeing 757 Birgenair Plane Crashes in Atlantic Ocean, 189 Killed
KOMPAS.com – The Boeing 757 operated by Birgenair crashed in the Atlantic Ocean shortly after taking off from the Dominican Republic on February 6, 1996.
In the accident as many as 189 passengers died. Birgenair is a Turkish charter airline company founded in 1988 with headquarters in Istanbul, Turkey.
Chronology of events
Reporting from the Washington Post, the tragedy that occurred on Tuesday night local time killed 189 people, including the 13 crew members on board.
The charter plane crashed while carrying German tourists home from a Caribbean vacation with destinations to Berlin and Frankfurt.
Before crashing, the plane had reached 7,000 feet in the air then suddenly turned back to the ground and disappeared from radar screens.
The investigation was carried out by various parties, such as the local state aviation safety board, Boeing, and engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce.
The investigation had experienced difficulties because the plane’s data recorder sank into the bottom of the Caribbean sea.
Reporting from the New York Times, the data recorder of the plane sank about 3,000 feet which cost a lot to evacuate. The plane also fell apart with debris scattered in the water.
Cause of accident
Reporting from simpleflying, it is known that there is a wasp nest in one of the pitot tubes on the plane.
Prior to use on the flight, the aircraft was not used for 20 days and was parked at Gregorio Luperon International Airport (POP) Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.
For two days before the day of the accident, his pitot tube was left open. The pitot tube is used to measure operational factors such as airspeed and aircraft altitude.
The wasp nest blocked the canister’s ability to register airspeed properly and was fatal.
Engine off
After departing Puerto Plata, the captain’s airspeed indicator (ASI) took an over-reading due to a blockage, showing a speed of 350 knots (650 km per hour).
This prompted the autopilot to reduce the plane’s speed and aim the nose up, although the first officer’s ASI correctly indicated the plane’s speed was 200 knots (370 km per hour).
The autopilot was then deactivated and the pilot manually reduced thrust. This caused the plane to stall, and the left engine shut down due to insufficient airflow.
The pilot also increased the thrust of the plane, but only the right engine was working so that the plane turned. The plane capsized and fell into the Atlantic Ocean.

Turkey & Syria Earthquake Update: The Death Toll Reaches 4,372 People!
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The death toll from the devastating earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 that rocked Turkey and Syria continues to increase.
As of Tuesday (7/2/2023), the confirmed death toll has reached at least 4,372.
Head of Turkey’s Disaster Services Yunus Sezer said the death toll in Turkey rose to 2,921 people. Meanwhile, another 15,834 people were injured.
Meanwhile, in Syria, local officials reported 1,451 deaths and 3,531 injuries.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that the number of victims will continue to increase to over 20,000 people.
Please note, the epicenter was about 26 km east of the city of Nurdagi in Turkey at a depth of about 18 km on the East Anatolian Fault. The earthquake spread northeastward, bringing devastation to central Turkey and Syria.
During the 20th century, the East Anatolian Fault generated little major seismic activity. “If we just look at the (major) earthquake recorded by the seismometer, it will look more or less blank,” said Roger Musson, honorary research fellow at the British Geological Survey, quoted by Reuters.
Only three earthquakes have registered above 6.0 on the Richter Scale (SR) since 1970 in the area, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). However, in 1822, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck the region, killing around 20,000 people.
In Turkey, there are an average of less than 20 earthquakes with magnitudes greater than 7.0 each year. That makes recent events classified as extraordinary events.

The gate valve is planned to be used in active wells. The workers then cut the bolts in the pipes and they were rusty.
“The officer cut the corroded bolts using a cutting tool in the form of a welding cutter. So this triggered an explosion,” said Siak Police Chief AKBP Ronald Sumaja, Tuesday (31/1/2023).
The explosion itself occurred allegedly because there was still gas left in the oil pipeline. As a result, a PT Bumi Siak Pusako worker named Anton (36) died.

So, what is the cause of the ship accident? Here’s more information.
Causes of Ships Capsizing in Pakistan
A group of students wanted to take a day trip to the Tanda Dam lake on Sunday (29/1/2023). However, the ship carrying them capsized in Pakistani waters.
Reported by AFP, the victims were found dead in the Dam Sign Lake, near Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. The reason the ship capsized was overloaded. The capacity of the boat is around 20 to 25 people.

Total Death Victims: 51 People
Until now, as many as 51 people have died as a result of capsized boats in Pakistan. Of the 51 victims, 49 of them were children.
Police spokesman Fazal Naeem said five people had been rescued, including four students and one teacher.
Cold Weather Hampered Evacuation
Rescue teams had difficulty evacuating victims of capsized ships in Pakistan. Divers spent three days pulling bodies from the freezing water, including those of a teacher and a skipper.
“The water in the dam froze because of the cold weather which hampered the rescue mission. But today the divers were able to dive deeper to find the remaining bodies,” said Khateer Ahmad, a senior official with Rescue 1122.
Grief of Parents of Victims of Ship Capsize in Pakistan
Muhammad Umar, a tea seller at a picnic spot overlooking the popular weekend tourist destination, said dozens of parents and relatives had gathered over the last few days. They follow the course of the evacuation process.
“Each time a body was recovered from the scene they would jump into divers to see if it was their son and every time we heard them scream in pain and sorrow,” said Umar, Tuesday (31/1/2023)
“I have never witnessed such a scene in my life, it is something that cannot be explained in words,” he continued.
Survivor Story: Stuck Under the Ship
One of the survivors of a ship that capsized in Pakistan told of being trapped under the ship. After being evacuated, he was treated in hospital.
“I am trapped under the ship,” Muhammad Mustafa, an 11-year-old survivor told AFP on Sunday (29/1/2023).
“My shawl and sweater weighed me down so I took them off,” she added.
“The water was very cold and my body was numb. I thought I was going to pass out when a man on a blow tube saved me,” he said.

Fire engulfs dozens of houses in Margahayu, Bandung
Bandung Regency – Dozens of residents’ houses burned down in Kebon Kalapa Village, Sukamenak Village, Margahayu District, Bandung Regency. The fire incident took place Monday (6/2) evening or around 23.00 WIB.
Miftahassalam, Head of the Bandung Regency Disdamkar Rescue and Evacuation Rescue Section, said that the fire had engulfed the houses of residents living in RT 2, 3 and 4, all of which are in the RW 6 area. “This location is densely populated,” said Miftah, Tuesday (7/2/2023) early day.
Miftah said the blaze grew because of the strong wind, so it spread to other houses. As a result dozens of houses burned down.
“The fire spread, because the wind direction was north. The position of Mr. Dori’s house was in the south, it spread to the north, eventually burning up to 25 houses,” he said.
He explained that firefighting vehicles had difficulty accessing the location of the fire. Because, said Miftah, the incident was in an alley.
“Access for fire engines is rather difficult. So it requires a long hose,” said Miftah, adding that officers were still trying to put out the fire until 00.30 WIB.
