National Museum Fire Triggered by Electrical Short Circuit, Valuable Collections Affected
The fire that occurred on Saturday night (16/9/2023) at the National Museum of Elephant Museum in Central Jakarta is thought to have been triggered by an electrical short circuit in the museum renovation project area. According to the Head of the Fire Handling and Rescue Service, April Rizal, the electrical short circuit occurred behind the museum exhibition area. It could have come from the workers’ quarters renovating the Block C Building.
The chronology of the fire started when security officers were holding a rally. At around 19.58 WIB, a large explosion occurred in the renovation project area at the National Museum, and the building alarm immediately sounded. The Central Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-Department immediately added personnel to extinguish the fire, and several fire trucks were deployed to the scene.
Officers are still trying to extinguish the fire in an area of 20×20 square meters, but there are no reports of casualties in this incident. Although some of the museum’s collections were affected, many remain intact. The identification team is working to collect data on the affected cultural heritage collections.
The National Museum of Indonesia is also trying to evacuate collections affected by the fire by providing a particular room. Apart from that, the authorities have summoned 16 witnesses to investigate the cause of the fire in building A at the National Museum of Indonesia complex.
The National Museum is now closed due to the fire. It is suspected that an electrical short circuit from the renovation project bed caused the cause of the fire.

A Grain Milling Factory Worker Died entangled in a Diesel Engine Rotation in Tasikmalaya. The Victim’s Body was Damaged
A fatal work accident occurred at a grain milling factory in Perintis Village, Sukamanah Village, Cipedes District, Tasikmalaya City, on Thursday (14/9/2023) afternoon. This accident resulted in a worker dying from being entangled in a machine while operating a large diesel engine in the factory. The victim, Wawan Saefulloh (58), a Cisayong, Tasikmalaya Regency resident, was found trapped in a large pulley, which is the connection between the machine and the grain milling system.
A resident, Agus Mulyawan (45), explained that the victim was working alone at the time of the incident. He said, “I spoke to him this morning and chatted as usual. The other employees didn’t come in today, so he worked alone.”
After that conversation, Wawan began his task of grinding grain. “He had time to repair the water pump, then the huller machine (grain grinder) started operating. I went home,” said Agus.
Several residents came to send or buy grain in the middle of the day. They called the victim but got no response. Agus said, “Then, there were people who wanted to send goods, they kept calling, but no one answered. Then they asked me, and together we searched the factory. It turned out that the victim had been trapped. We immediately reported this incident to RT and the police.”
Agus revealed that, at that time, the machine had stopped, and there were no other people in the factory. He said, “The engine was off, and no one else was around.”
Evacuating the victim took more than 2 hours because the victim’s body was trapped between the pulley and the rubber rope connecting the machine. The victim’s injuries were quite serious.
The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) team and the Tasikmalaya City Fire Brigade were involved in the evacuation process. Even though there were considerations to dismantle the machine first, in the end, it was not done because the condition of the victim’s body was already seriously injured.
The victim’s body was evacuated before 15.00 WIB and taken to Dr Soekardjo Tasikmalaya Regional Hospital.
Meanwhile, the factory was temporarily closed, and a police line was installed as an initial measure following the work accident that killed Wawan Saefulloh (58). The police stated that they believed the victim died due to a work accident, where the victim was trapped or dragged by the pulley and rope connecting the machine. Installing the drive rope is risky and is done manually when the machine is active.
It is suspected that the accident occurred when the victim attached the drive rope to the machine’s pulley, which caused his hand to be dragged by the rotation of the pulley, resulting in his entire body being dragged by the rotating device.

The theft of heavy equipment spare parts worries operators. The police finally arrest the perpetrator
The Criminal Investigation Unit Team (Satreskrim) from the Pulang Pisau Police has uncovered a theft of excavator spare parts owned by a company in Bukit Rawi Village, Central Kahayan District.
The Head of the Pulang Pisau Resort Police, AKBP Mada Ramadita, through the Head of the Central Kahayan Sector Police, AKP Eko Priono, announced that they had succeeded in arresting the perpetrator of the theft with the initials AS (24 years old).
Eko explained that the theft of heavy equipment spare parts had caused losses to the company, which then reported the case to the police. The authorities immediately investigated and processed the crime scene (TKP) to uncover this case. Finally, the perpetrator was arrested on Tuesday (19/9).
The Sector Police Chief explained that the AS perpetrator was a resident who lived in Jalan Ponorogo, Mentaren II Village, Kahayan Hilir District, Pulpis Regency. He carried out this theft when the security guard was not alert.
The perpetrator used a pickup and parked it on the side of the road, precisely on the shoulder of the Palangka Raya – Kuala Kurun Cross Road in Bukit Rawi Village.
“After parking the pickup, the perpetrator approached the heavy equipment and started dismantling the excavator parts one by one by removing the bolts using the tools he had brought. Then, he transported the spare parts in the pickup,” he explained.
However, bad luck befell the perpetrator because his suspicious activities were detected by company security officers, who were secretly monitoring the perpetrator. Finally, the security officer reported the incident to the company, who then reported this incident to the Kahayan Tengah Police.
From the perpetrator, the police managed to secure evidence through three upper excavator engine covers, a filter, an iron filter pipe, and an excavator filter cover. The police also confiscated the tools used by the perpetrator to dismantle the excavator’s spare parts.
“The US perpetrator was charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code regarding theft for his actions,” he stressed.

Fire Occurs Behind Pasar Jaya Ciplak Jatinegara Burning 4 Houses
The fire hit four houses on Jalan Panca Warga IV, Cipinang Besar Selatan, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, on Wednesday morning (20/9/2023).
According to Bambang Sumitro, a East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-agency Task Force member for the Bidara Cina sector, the initial suspected cause of this fire was an electrical short circuit.
This incident occurred around 09.44 WIB, and a fire broke out considerably in one of the houses. Residents in the area immediately gave a warning about the fire and reported it to the local RT and RW.
While waiting for help from the fire department, residents tried to extinguish the fire with the available tools. However, because some houses had flammable materials and the wind situation, the fire spread to other buildings, including the places in front, behind, and to the left of the first burning house. As a result, thick black smoke could be seen, and part of the wall on the second floor of the first building collapsed.
Bambang Sumitro said that the exact cause of the short circuit was still under further investigation.
The East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-Department sent 11 fire engines and 55 personnel to deal with this fire. The blackout lasted quite a long time, and the situation was finally declared safe at 11.26 WIB.
Although material losses are estimated at around IDR 300 million, the good news is that all 35 people around the fire location were evacuated and survived.
